BMW has started meting out the newly developed M4 GT4 to customer teams across the world.

At a launch event held at BMW Welt in Munich, BMW delivered the new M4 GT4 to the first customers following an exhaustive development process that included 30,000 kilometers of test lapping, 12 and 24-hour tests simulating race conditions.

“Today is a very special day for us. After intensive months of testing and development, the BMW M4 GT4 is now officially ready to race,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “I’m particularly pleased that we were able to deliver the first models to our customer teams at such an early stage. This means that our customers are now able to test the BMW M4 GT4 thoroughly and familiarise themselves with the car.”

European teams Securtal Sorg Rennsport, Team RN Vision STS, Team Gamsiz Motorsport, and 3Y Technology each took delivery of their new cars, ahead of North American, Asian, and Australian deliveries, which are expected to take place shortly. In North America, Turner Motorsport will continue to fly the BMW flag, with a pair of cars coming for competition in both IMSA and Pirelli World Challenge.

Customer teams Schubert Motorsport, Walkenhorst Motorsport and Sorg Rennsport all lent a hand during development, helping BMW understand privateer demands for performance, maintenance, and cost.

It survived its first competitive outing with a first-in-class finish during the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife earlier this summer, while BMW Motorsport Juniors Beitske Visser and Dennis Marschall gave the car another victory a few weeks ago at the Circuit de Catalunya as part of the GT4 European Series Southern Cup.

“We are pleased with the GT4 car in every respect so far,” Marquardt added. “The interest and demand from customer teams around the world has been incredibly high from the start. This acclaim makes us feel very positive.

“The production model BMW M4 Coupé provides the BMW M4 GT4 with a very strong basis, and we are extremely confident that the race car will become a guarantee of success for our customers.”

The car is priced at $199,000 in the U.S. and is one of the most affordable GT4 options.
