Volkswagen Has a Score to Settle at Pikes Peak

Volkswagen is teasing a race car that will likely be competing at the 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The German automaker has begun a teaser campaign with two vague images showing off a curvy race car and saying it has unfinished business at Pikes Peak. Along with the teaser images, there’s a video that confirms VW will compete at next year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb because it still has a score to settle. It’s likely Volkswagen is referring to its failed attempt at Pikes Peak in 1987 when it competed with a twin-engined GTI.

Autocar points out there are no intakes or grilles visible on the car, suggesting it could be electrically powered. An all-electric Pikes Peak race car makes sense considering Volkswagen is pushing very hard towards electrification in wake of its massive diesel scandal.
