2018 Ram 1500 Adds Bright New Hydro Blue Sport Trim

Ahead of introducing an all-new truck next year, Ram has released another special edition of its light-duty pickup. This time, they’re treating us to more retina-searing paint in the form of the 2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport.

Sprayed in a natty shade of bright blue, this buzz model is built off the Crew Cab Sport trim powered by the venerable 5.7-liter HEMI V8. Available in both two- and four-wheel drive models, the Hydro Blue pickup can be opted with trick Active Level air suspension and RamBox cargo system.

Standing out for this author is the new-for-2018 body-colored Sport grille with black billet inserts and black R-A-M letter badge. The ‘nostril’ grille was traditionally only available dipped in chrome and mounted on high-lux trims. A black-decaled Sport performance hood is also standard on the Hydro Blue 1500. Black bezel projector headlamps and LED tail lights complement the black body badging very well.

Ram is no stranger to offering the 1500 in bold colors, launching the Sublime Green option this past summer and an Ignition Orange hue in 2016. The Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport ties the monochromatic exterior theme together with body-colored front fascia, rear bumper, side mirrors and door handles.

“The custom look and high-impact colors have been well received in the marketplace and this new Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport will surely stand out on dealers’ lots and in customers’ driveways,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep & Ram Brands. “Enthusiasts demand that their trucks get noticed and our Ram 1500 Sport lineup delivers a durable, powerful alternative with great visual appeal.” With this paint scheme, they ain’t kidding.

Forged, polished 22-inch aluminum wheels are standard on 4×2 models and polished 20-inch wheels are standard on 4x4s. Gloss black rims are an option. Inside, the Hydro Blue color shows up on trim stitching and embroidery, plus on anodized surfaces around the air vents and centre console.

Sales of the current Ram pickup continue to be strong, despite being in the waning days of its product cycle. According to FCA, both the new and old Ram 1500s will be produced at the same time, presumably in a bid to placate shoppers not enamored with the new style. It’ll also give Ram a solid chance of taking second spot in the truck sales race.

Production of the uniquely colored Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport will be limited to 2,000 trucks. Base price will be $46,060, plus destination. The newest attention-grabber from Ram will go on sale this month.
