Internet Takes Aim at Tesla Fanboys With Hilarious Roadster Memes

Tesla’s new Roadster is a mighty impressive piece of machinery.

The automaker claims its second-generation sports car will be capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in under two seconds and will reach a top speed of over 250 mph. It also seats four, has a removable hardtop roof, boasts over 620 miles of EV range and costs a somewhat reasonable $200,000. It seems these preliminary stats have gone to the Teslaratis heads, though.

Following the Roadster’s debut, a user over at /r/TeslaMotors, a subreddit for Tesla fans and owners, posted an image comparing the new Roadster to the Bugatti Chiron. The image is intended to convey how the Roadster is better than the Chiron as it’s cheaper, faster to 60 mph, has two more seats and a similarly high top speed. This is, of course, an entirely unreasonable and pointless comparison, so the internet took notice and promptly started to make fun of the image.

Thanks to this little debacle, we now have ‘ Tesla Roadster Memes.’ Essentially, they compare the Roadster to cars it would never compete with, but mention upsides to the vehicles that the Roadster doesn’t have. Our favorite compares the Roadster to a 1996 Toyota Previa van, concluding the Previa to be the better car as it has three windshield wipers, two sunroofs, a full-size spare, a refrigerator, and a low $3,000 used price. It’s a great way to point out how cherrypicking facts to make a bias comparison serves nobody well.

Since the Previa comparison was posted, the meme has taken new life. Now the Roadster is being compared to everything from a banana to Shrek the Third on BluRay. We’d still probably rather have the Roadster over a BluRay Shrek film, but at least we can enjoy the movie today.

An F-16 pilot escorting a B-52 decides to start showing off by executing all sorts of fancy flying maneuvers within view of the bomber's crew. He starts with a vertical loop, then goes into an Immelmann, and so on. He punctuates each move by saying "Betcha can't do that, over." Finally, the B-52 crew tires of this, and the pilot pulls a move of his own. "Betcha can't do that, over." "I didn't see anything. What'd you do? Over." "I powered down two of my engines. Out."

The Shrek one is missing a line at the bottom. "Yes" ----- "Worth the money?" ----- "Hell no"
