Aston Martin Could Drop a Bigger Engine Into the New Vantage

Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer has revealed a V12-powered Vantage is technically possible.

No decision has been made on whether the British automaker wants to give the new Vantage a heavier engine. The reason is the Vantage was developed to be a sportier offering, with a focus on handling. The lighter V8 engine helps reach that goal and it’s possible the heavier V12 would change the driving characteristics of the sports car. “Technically, it is very possible,” said Palmer. “The engine bay has been designed to replicate that of the DB11, so the pick-up points and so on are all there. The V12 would fit without the need for extensive modifications.”

While no decision has been made on a V12-powered variant, Palmer did confirm a manual transmission for the Vantage V8 is being developed, along with a convertible version. Both models are scheduled to arrive in 18 months to two years.

“The V12 has many great attributes, but the extra weight would bring some differences in character that we’d need to consider,” Palmer added.
