Confirmed: New Ford Bronco Will Arrive for 2020

12

It’s official: the Ford Bronco will return for 2020.

During a special event in Michigan today, Ford confirmed the iconic Bronco nameplate would return for 2020. The automaker released a teaser image of the rugged new SUV, showing off an extremely square and boxy silhouette with a narrow windshield and what looks to be a tailgate-mounted spare tire. Interestingly, Ford also revealed the Bronco will be a hybrid. It’s not clear if all versions of the Bronco will be electrified, or if it will simply be offered in hybrid form.

“Ford helped start the off-road phenomenon and has majored in off-road capability for decades – from the Bronco to the Raptor,” Ford president Jim Farley said in a statement. “Now, we’re ready to reclaim our rightful place as the off-road vehicle leader.”

On its newly launched web portal for the 2020 Bronco, Ford said: “This new generation Bronco boasts the latest in smart technology and a bold new look while remaining true to its rugged roots.” It sounds as though the new Bronco will have a considerable amount of technology, despite being a throwback-style revival vehicle.

I hope it comes with more than just a hybrid power plant, the 2.7 with 375 horsepower would be great!

Thumbs up for a boxy design and hybrid, but can they ever get away from the OJ association? That’s actually a deal breaker for me, and I’m probably not the only one.

What’s ‘the OK association’?

drkside says:

I think it’s going to be a throwback to the sixties and seventies broncos and not the eighty and nineties style so I don’t think it would be associated with the murderer found innocent. Besides, why would anyone make that inhibit anyone?

David Gurney says:

I’d like to be optimistic, but the “latest” technology hype sounds like it’s going to be bloated with gimmicks. Also… a hybrid? So there’s going to be a big pan of batteries underneath, adding weight and ruining the ground clearance?
