Oh Boy, Netflix’s Car Show Looks as Bad as its Name

2

In a world where The Grand Tour and Top Gear exists, it’s hard to imagine this is the best Netflix can muster.

Before Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May announced their new show would be on Amazon Prime Video, it was widely believed the trio of former Top Gear hosts would be heading to Netflix. In the past few years, Netflix has become a streaming media giant and its heavy focus on original content almost seemed like a collaboration with Clarkson and company would be a no-brainer. But alas, The Grand Tour signed with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix decided Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee would suffice.

But now an official trailer has arrived for Netflix’s original car show, titled Fastest Car. The company describes the show as featuring hour-long episodes, with three souped-up “sleeper” cars that go head-to-head against supercars in an unscripted series. It premieres on Netflix April 6 and we’ll get to see things like a 1984 Honda CRX go up against a Ferrari California in what appears to be a drag race.

The trailer is filled with your typical drama to hype up the show, as well as a sneak peek at some of the vehicles that will be showcased. It still has a chance at being good, but car enthusiasts are probably cringing. Then again, it’s always nice to see well-built sleeper cars taking supercar owners down a peg. We’ll see how this fares when it launches next month.
