The Ranger Wildtrak is an off-road focused version of the brand’s new midsize truck and is already offered in other parts of the world. In Australia, the Wildtrak comes fitted with a 12V plug in the bed, a retractable tonneau cover, 18-inch alloy wheels with P265/60 tires and a suspension lift. Some new styling accents both inside and out will complete the package.
Much like the Ford Ranger Raptor we recently spotted, Ford hasn’t confirmed that this off-road package is coming to the States, but the multiple sightings of the Wildtrak testing on U.S. soil certainly suggest that this truck will be sold here. The possibility also remains that Ford will change the name of the package when it arrives here in the U.S., with one likely option being the FX4 moniker it uses to denote the basic off-road package for the F-150.
The Wildtrak seen in these photos is a right-hand drive unit and is using the 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel, good for 211 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, that is available in other markets. It isn’t clear yet if the diesel will be offered in the U.S.-spec Ranger. So far, Ford has only announced the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder gasoline engine for the U.S.
The Wildtrak will sit below the Raptor in the Ranger lineup and will compete directly with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road and the Colorado Z71.
