2019 Subaru Ascent Officially on Sale, First Example Sold
The 2019 Subaru Ascent is officially on sale, with the Japanese automaker selling the first example of the three-row crossover to “a loyal Subaru owner,” in Mequon, Wisconsin this week.
Subaru says the vehicle was sold to Samantha Ernest of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, who was accompanied by her two sons, Caden and Oliver, and their Boston Terrier, Brewer. This is perfect for Subaru, as Samantha and her family fit the automaker’s vision of an Ascent owner perfectly – she has a budding family, a dog and probably has too many people to carry and too many things to take with her to fit into a Forester or Crosstrek comfortably.
“My husband, Pat Henderson, and I have two active little boys,” said Ernest. “They love sports, so we’re always running them to Taekwondo, swimming or team sports with their friends. One of the reasons I wanted this new SUV is because it has the third row. Now that they’re getting a bit older and have more friends, I need more room.”

This is the same reason that Kia has greenlit the Telluride Concept for production, the Korean automaker told us at the New York Auto Show this year. Many Kia customers are forced to defect from the brand once their family reaches a certain size, as there just isn’t a vehicle in the company’s portfolio that is large enough. It’s an increasingly common problem to have and is the reason why so many automakers are getting in on the affordable three-row crossover game.
The Ascent, which is the largest Subaru ever built, is on sale now from $31,995. For that price, buyers will get themselves into modestly equipped three-row SUV with a 2.2-liter turbocharged boxer engine, a CVT automatic transmission, 19 cupholders, and plenty of room for all their stuff. AutoGuide.com will be sampling the 2019 Ascent this week, so stay tuned for a full review of this highly anticipated family vehicle shortly.

- Someone should tell this woman about the perfect family vehicles with convenient sliding doors, third row, you know... mini-vans. Oh, but you see she needs "Sport Utility Vehicle" because her sons are into all sorts of sports. - I see... **crickets** Plus, Subaru doesn't make mini-vans. - Ah, got it.
I thought the engine was a 2.4L Turbo?
