The Genesis G70 sports sedan has been crowned AutoGuide.com’s 2019 Car of the Year, fending off stiff competition from four other all-new models that participated in this annual competition.

As an upstart challenger brand, Genesis has a lot to prove, especially if it has any hope of luring customers away from far more established luxury marques. Any new product introduced must go above and beyond what’s offered by rival models in a given segment. Fortunately, this South Korean automaker they brought its A-plus game for 2019.

“Our editors were unanimously impressed by the Genesis G70 — it’s an overall excellent package that was smartly designed, cleverly engineered and fairly priced,” said AutoGuide.com editor-in-chief Jodi Lai. Top to bottom, front to back, inside and out this fancy four-door impressed everyone on the team that drove it.

Genesis has been raking in the awards. This is the second time a Genesis product has been awarded at an AutoGuide.com Car of the Year. The G90 also won in 2015.

“At Genesis, we are focused on delivering premium vehicles that rise to the top of their respective segments,” said Erwin Raphael, executive director, Genesis Motor America. “We are so proud that the highly respected AutoGuide.com site’s editors have acknowledged the inherent qualities and capabilities of the G70 in naming it their 2019 Car of the Year.”

The new G70 faced stiff competition in this year’s car-of-the-year challenge, facing off against a diverse range of models including the Honda Insight, Nissan Altima, Kia Rio and Hyundai Veloster. But these vehicles were no match for this Genesis, which took first-place honors in nearly every category of our scoring system.

Neatly summing up the G70’s commanding victory Lai noted, “This luxury sport sedan not only raises the bar for its own brand and segment but the industry in general. Driving dynamics, luxury, features, cool factor — the Genesis G70 has it all and the automaker has worked hard for this win.”
