Polestar Just Manufactured Its 100,000 Polestar 2 EV
It’s a big milestone for the Sino-Swedish brand.
After about two and a half years after entering production, the Polestar 2 has officially surpassed the 100,000 unit mark. Made in the Volvo Cars’ Taizhou plant in Luqiao, China, the 100,000 example of the EV liftback is headed to a customer in Ireland, complete with unique stickers to memorialize the achievement.
This achievement is part of the steady demand for Polestars, globally. In Europe, the Polestar 2 is the fifth-best-selling premium midsized car, even outselling gas-powered rivals like the Audi A5. The brand has been open about its goal to deliver 50,000 cars globally this year; it’s already built that many cars this year, and it just now has to get them into customers’ hands. Polestar has sold more than 17,000 cars on the European continent alone this year, well on track to hit its targets.
CEO Thomas Ingenlath called the milestone an “amazing achievement,” considering the Polestar 2 was launched under a less-than-ideal time period – the pandemic. He went on to thank the Polestar team and customers for helping the brand achieve these numbers.
Polestar is gearing up for an even harder EV sales affront. The Polestar 3 EV crossover launches soon, then the Polestar 4 crossover coupe SUV, the Polestar 5 sedan, and Polestar 6 sports convertible will join in the coming years. New factories globally are being constructed to make these vehicles, and the popularity of SUVs and crossovers should only help the brand to continue to grow.
