A brand that has changed hands many times over the years. more]]>
Land Rover is popular all over the world for its extremely capable and well-made SUVs, but you may not know where the brand originates, who makes Land Rover, or where it builds its crossovers and SUVs today.

SEE ALSO: Where Is Jaguar Made?

In this post, we’ll provide a brief overview of Land Rover’s (admittedly complicated) history, where it was first incorporated and where its various plants are located today. This post will focus on the Land Rover plants that serve the North American market, as it operates many plants that serve foreign markets only, such as its plant in China.

Scroll down to learn all about Land Rover and where Land Rover products are made.

Who Makes Land Rover? Where is Land Rover From?

who makes land rover

Land Rover was originally a sub-brand of British marque Rover Company, with its first vehicle being the Series I Land Rover Defender, which launched in 1948. The Series I was one of the first mass-produced four-wheel drive vehicles and was likely inspired by the original Willys Jeep.

In late 1967, the British government pressured Rover Company to join forces with the Leyland Motor Corporation, otherwise known as British Leyland. In 1978, BL rolled Land Rover into an entirely separate company. It then became part of the Rover Group after BL went under 1988, with Rover Group later being sold to BMW in 1994. In 2000, BMW sold Land Rover to Ford, which then sold the SUV brand to Indian firm Tata Motors in 2008. Tata has owned the company ever since, operating it under the Jaguar-Land Rover banner. Although it’s owned by an Indian company, Land Rover’s global headquarters are located in Coventry, United Kingdom.

Top 10 Best Diesel Cars You Can Buy in the US The Short List Fri, 12 Apr 2019 12:24:43 +0000 Top 10 Best Diesel Cars You Can Buy in the US – The Short List Top 10 Best Diesel Cars You Can Buy in the US – The Short List
Diesel cars in North America aren't as easy to come by, but there are still some left. more]]>

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

It’s a real shame you can’t buy a new diesel-powered Volkswagen in the U.S. anymore.

Following the automaker’s big emissions brouhaha, they don’t offer any, even though they’ve been a huge proponent of the technology for decades. Luckily though, this scandal didn’t ruin compression ignition for everyone.

For enhanced fuel efficiency, greater driving range and, of course, copious low-end torque, it’s hard to beat a diesel. The only problem is the fuel is a bit pricier than gasoline and they require much more after-treatment hardware, which, of course, is expensive.

While harder to find, you can still buy a variety of new diesel-powered vehicles in America today and here are a few worthwhile offerings.

10. 2019 Chevrolet Cruze

And we start with the Chevrolet Cruze. Even though production officially ceased on March 6, with GM’s Lordstown, Ohio, manufacturing plant being idled, you should still be able to buy one of these compact cars with an oil-burning engine. More specifically, a 1.6-liter dynamo that features a variable-nozzle turbocharger. Rated at 137 horsepower and a beastly 240 pound-feet of torque, it should provide plenty of scoot. For 2019, a six-speed manual transmission is no longer offered with this engine, so you’ll just have to make do with the standard nine-ratio auto-box. At least you can choose between hatchback and sedan bodies.

9. 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

But most drivers these days are completely disinterested in small cars, a real pity. Crossovers are the only vehicles people seem to want anymore. But good news, you don’t even have to leave the Chevrolet store to get a car-based utility with a diesel engine.

They’ll happily sell you an Equinox with the same engine as in the Cruze – one with identical bore, stroke and output figures. Matched to a six-speed automatic transmission, it’s impressively economical, especially in front-wheel-drive form. Expect up to 32 MPG combined.

8. 2019 GMC Terrain

Of course, if you want a professional-grade Equinox, you could always grab a GMC Terrain. Yes, it too is available with that same silky-smooth 1.6-liter diesel. Base price with that engine is about $33,000 including delivery.

7. 2019 Jaguar XE

But back to cars. The Jaguar XE is a pleasant luxury sedan with tasteful design and plenty powertrain options. In the U.S., you can get several flavors of a turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder, a supercharged V6 or even – GASP – a small diesel! The compression-ignition offering displaces 2.0-liters and is rated at a rather middling 180 horsepower, however, torque clocks in at a crushing 318 pound-feet! That’s enough kibbles and bits to get this car to 60 miles an hour in a claimed 7.4 seconds.

6. 2019 Jaguar XF

And guess what? You can get that same smooth-running Jaguar Ingenium diesel in the larger XF sedan if you fancy having a bit more car. Unfortunately, though, that engine is not available in the versatile and oh-so-sexy Sportbrake station wagon. They’re only offered with a 380-horsepower supercharged gasoline V6. Such a privation!

5. 2019 Jaguar F-Pace

Now, if you still want to stay in the Jaguar Land Rover family, an oil-burning heart is also available in the F-Pace and Velar utility vehicles. These closely related crossovers are both graced with 180 horses provided by 2.0-liters of displacement spread across four cylinders. Sounds pretty familiar, eh? If the Jaguar floats your boat, plan on shelling out about $50,000 for a base F-Pace with this engine.

Nine Things to Know About the 2018 Range Rover Velar –

Of course, if you’d rather own the Range Rover Velar instead of the abovementioned Jag, tack about $7,200 more on to that price tag for an entry-level example. Arguably, this model is even more handsome than its big-cat stablemate.

But how ‘bout a few trucks to round out this list? What American doesn’t love a pickup?! If they say they don’t, they’re probably lying to you!

And we start with the Chevy Colorado. In LT trim, it can be fitted with a sprightly 2.8-liter Duramax oil-burning four-cylinder engine that’s good for 181 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque.

2. 2019 GMC Canyon SLE

Of course, you could also get this engine in an SLE-trim GMC Canyon. Either way that diesel engine should return up to 30 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive. Base price for the Chevy is about $37,000 but plan on spending around $1,000 more for the GMC.

1. 2019 Ford F-150

Rounding things out is the ever-popular Ford F-150. This full-size truck can be had with a refined 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel V6, one that delivers 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of twist. Aside from those figures, Ford is also keen to crow about its impressive 30-mpg highway rating, a number it should deliver when properly equipped, of course, a version I’d bet few people actually buy. Still, that’s a mighty impressive figure for a big, honkin’ pickup.

JLR's new mild-hybrid inline-six will be offered in 355 hp and 395 hp flavors. more]]>
The 2019 Range Rover Sport will be offered with two different versions of the automaker’s innovative new 3.0-liter mild hybrid inline-six engine.

JLR’s new mild-hybrid inline-six, which it first detailed early last month, will be offered in 355 hp and 395 hp flavors in the 2019 Range Rover Sport. The 355 hp version of the engine will power the entry-level P360 and mid-tier HSE P360 trims, while the 395 hp version will only be found in the range-topping HST P400.

The British brand says the 395 hp version of the 3.0-liter engine, which also has a meaty 406 lb-ft of torque on tap, can propel the SUV from 0-60 mph in around 5.9s and onward to a top speed of 140 mph.

Prices for the 2019 Range Rover Sport will start at $68,500 in the United States for the P360, with the 395 hp HST P400 model starting at $82,950.

SEE ALSO: Top 10 Cars We’re Excited About in 2019

The 3.0-liter inline-six engine features an electrically driven supercharger along with a twin-scroll turbocharger. The combustion engine is paired with a 48v battery that harvests energy through regenerative braking that can be used when accelerating from a stop, for example, or to operate the start-stop system.

Land Rover says the powertrain delivers “smooth acceleration and enhanced performance,” over its outgoing V6 engines. It didn’t mention if it expects fuel economy figures for the 2019 Range Rover Sport to improve over outgoing models, though it seems likely.

The 2019 Range Rover Sport will arrive in US dealers later this year.

Top 10 Most Expensive SUVs Fri, 01 Mar 2019 12:33:18 +0000 Top 10 Most Expensive SUVs Top 10 Most Expensive SUVs
People want SUVs and will pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for them. more]]>
This post was updated for 2019.

Crossovers and SUVs are hugely popular these days.

It’s why automakers keep introducing more and more of them every year, with some companies vacating the traditional car market altogether.

Versatility is a major reason why these machines are selling so well in America, and really, around the world. Utility vehicles typically have far more cargo space than comparably sized sedans. But another benefit is their elevated seating positions, which provide drivers with a bird’s eye view of their surroundings. And if that’s not enough, there’s a huge span of different models available. Truly, there’s something for every driver’s budget and taste, from the diminutive Honda HR-V to Chevrolet’s colossal Suburban.

SEE ALSO: Top 5 Best Racing Simulator Games

Of course, there’s also a selection of ultra-pricey SUVs tailor-made for the world’s moneyed elite. They often provide outrageous performance, style, and luxury in a package that makes us common folk weep. Here’s a list of the 10 most expensive SUVs available today.

Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe, $113,995

Like the BMW X6, Mercedes’ AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is another utility vehicle that prioritizes style over function. Matching its nemesis from Munich, it too can reach mile-a-minute velocity in 4.1 seconds. A bi-turbo 5.5-liter V8 provides the motivation, 577 horsepower to be precise, while a seven-speed automatic transmission ensures that output makes it to all four wheels through a performance-tuned 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Base price is around 114 grand, a figure that includes $995 in destination charges.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo, $125,850

Next up, another German road-rocket, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. This five-seat SUV shows its taillights to the GLE 63 S Coupe, blitzing to 60 in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is 177 miles an hour (285 km/h). Not bad for a vehicle with just 541 horses. Base price for the Cayenne Turbo is a whisker shy of $126,000 including $1,250 for delivery, though in typical Porsche fashion you can load it up with tens of thousands of dollars in superfluous add-ons like personalized door-sill guards and body-color key fobs.

Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, $127,145

Looking for something a little bigger than a Cayenne yet still audaciously expensive? Well, seek no further because the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 is the ride for you! This three-row behemoth is graced with 577 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of twist, more than enough of each to haul around up to 98 cubic feet (2,775 liters) of cargo and rocket to mile-a-minute speed in 4.5 seconds. This rig stickers for more than 127 grand, a price that mercifully includes delivery, which is an additional $995.

Tesla Model X Performance with Ludicrous Mode, $137,000

But you don’t necessarily need internal combustion to enjoy stupid speed as the Tesla Model X proves. Opt for the Performance version of this all-electric SUV, which starts at 108 grand, and then check the box for Ludicrous Mode, which tacks another $20,000 onto the sticker price, and you’ll have a big, honkin’ utility vehicle that can hit 60 in an absurdly brisk 2.8 seconds. Terminal velocity is 155 miles an hour (250 km/h). Estimated driving range is just shy of 290 miles.

Mercedes-AMG G 63, $148,495

Back to Mercedes-Benz for a moment, because this fabled luxury brand offers an even more expensive SUV than the GLS 63. The AMG-ified G 63 is an absolute beast both on road and off. Blessed with 577 horsepower there’s not much it can’t handle, from outrunning sports cars on the drag strip to climbing the tallest of mountains, this latest Geländewagen is one of the most capable vehicles around. Priced at right about $150,000 including $995 in delivery fees it better be!

With a fire-breathing 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 under its hood, this family-friendly vehicle is endowed with 641 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Those kibbles and bits rocket the Urus to 60 miles an hour in less than 3.6 seconds. As for top speed, this thoroughbred maxes out at 190 miles an hour. With style, drama and surprising function, what’s not to love about this thing? Well, perhaps the base price, which is around 200 grand.

The Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography Long Wheelbase (Phew! That’s a mouthful.) features a supercharged V8 delivering up to 557 horsepower. It rolls on gigantic 21-inch wheels and has seating for up to four very lucky people, who will be coddled in absolute luxury. The Bentayga is Bentley’s first-ever SUV. Imposing and powerful, it offers unparalleled performance and luxury. The base version stickers for right around $200,000, but the recently announced Speed model is likely going to cost even more than that. Will it be a quarter of a million dollars? Your guess is as good as ours. With a W12 engine cranking out 626 horsepower, this British brute can accelerate to 60 miles an hour in just 3.8 seconds!

Rolls-Royce Cullinan, $325,000

Finally, we come to what should be the most-expensive utility vehicle available today, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Lest you think this illustrious brand was immune to the SUV craze, the folks in Goodwood have seen fit to introduce an elevated wagon of their own. A gigantic-yet-liquid-smooth 6.7-liter V12 provides the motivation here, a library-silent 563 horsepower. That should be enough to deliver 60 miles an hour on a silver platter in just 4.8 seconds, not bad for a vehicle with the aerodynamics and mass of an ocean liner. Expect the Cullinan to kick off at right a princely $325,000.

A mid-size crossover with a near-550 hp V8. What a mad creation. more]]>
[See image gallery at]
Land Rover has debuted the new Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition – a mid-size crossover that is as powerful as its name is long.

Under the hood of the Velar Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition is Jaguar Land Rover’s 5.0-liter supercharged V8, which is good for 542 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, this forced induction eight-cylinder will help the Velar hustle from 0-60 mph in a sports car-baiting 4.5s and reach a top speed of 170 mph. Land Rover also claims it will accelerate from 50-75 mph in just 2.6s.

You can’t just drop a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 in a crossover and call it a day, so the Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition also gets lightweight 20-inch wheels that make room for massive 15.5-inch brake rotors. Grabbing the rotors are strong four-piston calipers in the front and a single piston caliper in the rear. Land Rover also tuned the rear differential, eight-speed transmission, steering rack and air suspension system to deliver a sportier driving experience.

SEE ALSO: 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar First Drive Review

All V8 Velars will also get a new front bumper with large air intake pods, a different grille, a black contrasting roof and a revised rear bumper with quad exhaust tips. The automaker says the Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition is also the only Velar available in ‘Satin Byron Blue’. Six other colors are also available: Firenze Red, Santorini Black, Corris Grey, Fuji White and Indus Silver.

Interior upholstery options include Ebony, Cirrus, Vintage Tan and Pimento leather, while carbon fiber interior trim is available as an option. A sport steering wheel with paddle shifters and heated and cooled sports seats are also standard.

The Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition will start at £86,120 in the UK, or roughly $111,600 USD. Range Rover has not said if the vehicle will be available in the United States or Canada.

Top 10 Cars We’re Excited About in 2019 Thu, 03 Jan 2019 18:23:01 +0000 Top 10 Cars We’re Excited About in 2019 Top 10 Cars We’re Excited About in 2019
Here's what we're most looking forward to. more]]>

We’re setting our sights on a whole new year of automotive excellence. We can’t wait to see what new cars debut in 2019, but there are a few that have already caught our eye. We can’t wait to drive these new cars or see them fully revealed. Here’s what we’re looking forward to:

Kia Soul

Making its debut at the 2018 L.A. Auto Show, the Kia Soul is an interesting little car that manages to fulfill a number of consumer demands. It’s spacious yet fuel efficient. It’s affordable and attractive. It’s quirky and cool. It’s hard not to like the Soul and we bet that it’ll be even better to drive than it was in past generations. There will also be a Soul EV, which basically bundles the Kona EVs powertrain with a cool new look.

See Also: 2020 Kia Soul and Soul EV Debut

Lincoln Aviator

When was the last time anyone said they were looking forward to a Lincoln? Then again, when was the last time Lincoln brought out a vehicle with 600 lb-ft of torque? The Aviator is also extremely attractive, taking the interior and exterior design language from the well-received Lincoln Navigator and applying it to a smaller canvas. Yes, the Aviator will be a bit smaller, but it comes with a ton of equipment. A plug-in hybrid version will be coming, but there’s also an air suspension that can scan the road ahead and pre-adjust the suspension to smooth out the ride as much as possible. Sounds like and looks like a winner all around.

Land Rover Defender

A Land Rover Defender is on the way to North America, finally. It seems like we’re getting ready for a new work-horse that is sure to be a hit — people seem to love boxy off-road-ready SUVs. If the Wrangler doesn’t do it for you and you have no faith in the upcoming Ford Bronco, the Defender is probably what you’re waiting for.

Jeep Gladiator

2020 Jeep Gladiator

It’s a Jeep Wrangler with more utility! What more could you ask for?!

See Also: Everything you need to know about the Jeep Gladiator

Polestar 1

This is an exclusive sports car from Volvo spin-off brand Polestar. The body is made from carbon fiber, which is wild, but the automaker pairs that lightweight tech with some high-speed tech. Using a plug-in hybrid powertrain, it features 600 horsepower and 730 lb-ft of torque and can travel about 90 miles on a single charge. With a production run of just 500 cars a year, it’ll be interesting to see how many people pick up the tab on this $155,000.

See Also: Polestar 1 costs more than BMW i8, Acura NSX

Porsche Taycan

But if we’re going to bring up any electrified vehicle, it’ll be hard to ignore the upcoming Porsche Taycan. In fact, the brand has recently boosted production due to the high demand. The brand’s Tesla Model S competitor will feature 600 horsepower from its two electric motors, which allows it to hit highways speeds in just 3.5 seconds. The automaker is also looking to introduce a fast-charging system: it uses an 800V system that will provide 250 miles of range in just 15 minutes. Maximum range is 310 miles, and the brand is hoping to feature a price that starts in the low $90,000 range. This will be an interesting year for EVs thanks to the introduction of the Taycan.

Mercedes-AMG One

mercedes-amg project one

There are going to be a few Formula One-inspired vehicles arriving next year, and while there are no chances we’ll actually get to drive one, it’s still extremely exciting to see these ultra-high-performance cars get made. One of the most highly anticipated examples is the Mercedes-AMG One, which will utilize a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 and a hybrid powertrain that makes over 1,000 horsepower. The vehicle also weighs less than 2,900 lbs and will feature a top speed in excess of 220 mph. Simply put, this is going to be crazy.

Chevrolet Corvette C8

Are the rumors real? Are we getting a mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette? It seems that way based on the spy photos and the slow tease of information. It seems like the automaker is set on making a supercar to deflate the Ford GT, and this Corvette might be it. We were supposed to see it this January, but apparently, some last-minute issues are causing the debut to be delayed. Time will tell if this is still just a pipe dream or if we’ll actually get the new ‘vette or not.

Ford Bronco

People can’t wait to see Ford’s Jeep Wrangler fighter, and we’re expecting a very rugged-looking truck that will look to take a chunk out of the Jeep’s success and market share. We expect it to feature a boxy look, a removable roof, and solid front and rear axles. While we likely won’t drive the vehicle in 2019, we should get a full reveal and more specs soon.

Toyota Supra

Who hasn’t been waiting to see the Supra completely uncovered? The new Toyota sports car is coming and everyone is annoyed or excited about it. Enthusiasts are divided because all the hardware in the new Supra is actually from BMW. The turbocharged straight-six is from the German automaker, and many are worried that the typically rock-solid reliability expected from Toyota will be lost. Time will tell, but at least we can let you sleep soundly with the promise that this is a fun-to-drive sports car. We drove an early version back in 2018 and it didn’t disappoint thanks to its excellent power delivery and tons of grip.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender will be sold in the United States and Canada, the British automaker has announced.

The next-generation Defender, which will debut in 2019 before going on sale in the US and Canada in early 2020, is said to have “broader public appeal,” than the utilitarian first-generation Defender. The automaker says it will have “an all-new exterior and interior design, as well as a suite of the latest driver assistance and connectivity features available.”

“When it debuts in 2019, the new model will represent 70 years of innovation and improvement in just one model year; honoring the model’s history for rugged durability, while thoroughly remaining a Defender for the 21st century,” Land Rover added.

Land Rover is currently putting the 2020 Defender through a brutal pre-production testing regime that will expose it to all sorts of brutal conditions, from frigid Sweden to the scorching American desert. It says the tests will help “to make sure the new Defender is the most off-road capable Land Rover vehicle ever.”

An electrified version should arrive eventually as well, but may not be offered from launch.

Like all Land Rovers, the new Defender will aim for segment-leading off-road capability. Expect plenty of ground clearance and an evolved version of the manufacturer’s Terrain Response traction management system. Land Rover will also put the vehicle through a stringent pre-production testing regime that will expose it to all sorts of brutal conditions, from frigid Sweden to the scorching American desert.

Look for the new Land Rover Defender to make its debut in 2019, likely at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, before sales begin the following year.

All-New Range Rover Evoque Debuts Looking Like a Little Velar Thu, 22 Nov 2018 20:49:43 +0000 All-New Range Rover Evoque Debuts Looking Like a Little Velar All-New Range Rover Evoque Debuts Looking Like a Little Velar
It also gets a mild hybrid system. more]]>
The style-first Range Rover Evoque surprised when it arrived in 2011. Startlingly close to the LRX concept that preceded it, the three and five-door crossover’s sharp lines and small size helped carve a new segment into the crowded crossover class. Now it’s time for an all-new model. With more style, more tech, and more sustainable materials.

Land Rover has revealed the new Range Rover Evoque in London, broadcast on the automaker’s social media channels. While it’s not quite world’s largest Lego stage built for the Discovery, Range Rover was quick to show off the car’s off-road prowess, driving it almost immediately over ramps that put a wheel in the air and then through a deep water ford.

The new Evoque isn’t a massive change stylistically from the current model. The basic shape is similar, though with a more Velar-like nose and new flush-mount door handles. The sides and corners are sleeker than before, much like the latest Discovery.

Inside, the new Evoque uses new materials that are an alternative to traditional leather. Kvadrat wool and Dinamica suede, and even a Eucalyptus textile and Ultrafabrics that use recycled plastics and natural materials. Every new Evoque will contain up to 72.8 lbs (33 kg) of natural and recycled material.

At 172.1 inches long and 75 inches wide, it’s nearly identical in exterior dimensions to the old one. But Land Rover says the new platform means 0.8 inches more legroom, six percent more luggage space, and a generally larger interior.

Two powertrains will be available at launch. Both use a 2.0L turbo four, but one adds a 48-volt mild hybrid system to the Evoque. The base engine produces 246 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The mild hybrid harvests energy under coasting and deceleration, plus it allows more use of start-stop engine shut off, and at speeds up to 11 mph. And it makes 296 hp and 296 lb-ft. Both powertrains get four-wheel drive and use a nine-speed automatic.

New technology features include a ClearSight Ground View camera that uses front-facing cameras and the infotainment screen to let you virtually see through the hood to the ground directly in front of the vehicle. Useful in the bush and useful when parking in town. It also offers a rear-view camera mirror that projects a rear-facing camera into the central rear-view mirror. The camera and screen combo gives the driver a wider field of view and can let them see around cargo and passengers. It’s also designed for better low-light performance.

There are rear-seat tablet holders with charge ports for rear passengers, and up front, Land Rover’s InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system will be on the options list. That combines a pair of 10.0-inch screens with a 12.3-inch digital dash and a full-color head-up display.

More details about the 2020 Range Rover Evoque, including pricing and timing, will come at the Chicago Auto Show in February.

A unique Land Rover Discovery has entered active service with the Austrian Red Cross disaster response team.

The custom Land Rover Discovery is developed from the original Project Hero concept car and serves as a new emergency mobile command center, helping disaster response teams to save lives. It also provides eyes in the sky with a special drone, while go-anywhere wheels gives it versatility on the ground. The project was the result of an 18-month collaboration between Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations and the Austrian Red Cross and it will operate as a mobile nerve center for disaster emergencies.

On board the vehicle is an advanced eight-rotor drone, featuring a long-range thermal imaging camera that is capable of spotting a person from over 1,440 feet (440 meters) and can identify a vehicle at almost 3,280 feet (1,000 meters).

Other bespoke features on the Discovery include four radio antennas, 360-degree lighting, and a unique integrated carbon fiber loadspace Command Center so that Red Cross personnel can coordinate emergency responses.

“Our partnership with the Red Cross isn’t just about our vehicles,” said Michael Van Der Sande, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations. “Since we started collaborating in 1954, our aim has been to help the Red Cross improve its disaster response and ultimately to help save lives. Over the past 18 months our engineers have worked closely with the emergency response team at the Austrian Red Cross, deploying Land Rover’s technology and talent to create a unique solution to the requirements of the Red Cross in the region.”

The 2019 Range Rover has been detailed by the British automaker this week.

Among the most prominent changes made to the Range Rover for 2019 is the addition of the P400e HSE model to the lineup. The P400e uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 85 kW electric motor as the Range Rover Sport P400e and boasts an output of 398 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. With a 13.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the SUV can travel up to 31 miles using electric power only. Land Rover claims it will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and top out at 137 mph.

Also new on the 2019 Range Rover is a ‘Wade Sensing’ system that provides the driver with real-time wading depth information in relation to the vehicle’s maximum wading capacity. The SUV gets an expanded suite of driver assistance technology as well including an available Active Cruise Control system with Steering Assist. The system is apart of the new Driver Assist Pack, which includes everything in the available Drive Pro and Park Pro packs too, such as High Speed Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keep Assist, a 360-degree Parking Aid, Rear Traffic Monitor and Clear Exit Monitor.

Straight Six to Replace V8s in Future Jaguar Land Rover Models Tue, 07 Aug 2018 13:49:18 +0000 Straight Six to Replace V8s in Future Jaguar Land Rover Models Straight Six to Replace V8s in Future Jaguar Land Rover Models
New three- and four-cylinders are also on the way. more]]>
Jaguar Land Rover will eventually phase out V8 engines in favor of high-performance versions of the upcoming Ingenium inline-six engine.

According to Autocar, the new Ingenium straight-six will feature an electrically powered turbocharger, giving it enough power to properly replace the aging 5.0-liter V8 in future Land Rover and Jaguar products. Less powerful versions of the engine will also replace the automaker’s 3.0-liter V6 going forward.

The straight-six engine is apart of a new lineup of Ingenium engines from JLR that will also include a three-cylinder and a four-cylinder. Clean diesels are also included in the new engine lineup, although they are likely for Europe only and probably won’t arrive in North America.

The first vehicle expected to arrive with these new engines is the next-generation Evoque. The crossover will ride on a heavily modified version of the current front-wheel drive based platform called ‘Premium Transverse Architecture’. Autocar alleges the new Evoque will debut in Los Angeles in November before going on sale in the beginning of 2019. The next-generation Discovery Sport will also move to the PTA platform when it’s replaced in 2020 or 2021.

Eventually, all JLR models will move to a modular aluminum-intensive platform called the ‘Modular Longitudinal Architecture’. The flexible platform will accommodate both rear- and all-wheel drive layouts, along with gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains. The first MLA-based model to arrive will be the next-generation Defender – expected to enter production in 2020. Shortly after, the MLA-based Jaguar J-Pace large SUV will debut, followed by the next-generation Range Rover in 2021. The rumored wagon-crossover combo, internally referred to as the ‘Road Rover’ EV, will arrive on MLA sometime after 2022.

Eventually the E-Pace, Evoque and Discovery Sport will move to MLA as well – although this isn’t expected to happen until 2025 or later.

This new product strategy will see JLR replace every single one of its current models with all-new ones by 2024. All told, 99 new model variants will be launched between now and then.
