When Dodge boss Ralph Gilles introduced the 2011 Dodge Charger at the LA Auto Show, he said that they call it the “car that makes other sedans wet their pants.” When he introduced the 2011 Dodge Challenger, he smiled.

With pretty much all the data on the new 2011 Challenger having already been leaked, Dodge has now dropped the official info, confirming the arrival of the more powerful and efficient Pentastar V6 as the new base engine. With a total of 305-hp and 268 ft-lbs of torque the base Challenger gains 55-hp and 18 ft-lbs over last year’s model. This also puts the Challenger in the same numbers gave as its two major competitors with the Camaro boasting 312-hp and the Mustang with 305-hp (although the Stangd weights 400 lbs less).

Thanks to leaked documents from the recent Chrysler dealer meeting we have the official output numbers for the 2011 Dodge Challenger. Of note are the base-model V6 and top dog SRT8 with big power increases.

Outside, the biggest changes are to the lower rear fascia, the door handles and the lip spoiler. An upgraded interior will also be a part of the package.

While Chrysler hasn’t released any official info, car buying site NADA Guides has a listing for the 2011 Challenger with what appears to be the new 2011 info and pricing – including the new engine options and increased sticker prices

In a bid to stay competitive in the ever-constant muscle car horsepower wars, the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is set to get a big increase in power. We’ve already heard numerous rumors of a new 6.4-liter V8 replacing the current 6.1-liter unit, but now comes word that along with improved efficiency, the new engine will boast 480-hp and 460 ft-lbs of torque – increases of 55-hp and 40 ft-lbs respectively. The new engine is also touted to get ZF’s new 8-speed automatic transmission for improved performance and fuel economy.
