Chevrolet is recalling 87,063 Malibu mid-size sedans from the 2013 to 2015 model years.

Chevrolet’s Malibu faces stiff competition with many viable alternatives in the mid-size sedan segment, but the brand hopes to make the car more competitive through an early refresh.

Perhaps a little disappointing for those who had their eyes on the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, GM is estimating that its entry-level 2.5-liter model will get an EPA rated 22-mpg city, 34-mpg highway.

Coming to dealerships this summer is the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan, equipped with an all-new 2.5-liter Ecotec engine with a starting price of $23,150 including a $760 destination charge.

Across North America, 15 teams  will be participating in the EcoCar2 Challenge, a three-year alternative fuels vehicle competition sponsored by General Motors and the Department of Energy.

Certain 2013 Chevrolet Malibu’s are being recalled for the possibility that the drivers side roof rail airbag may unexpectedly deploy, possibly causing injury to the driver. 

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is GM’s first global midsize-sedan. In order to appeal to customers all over the world Chevrolet got a little design help from the Chevy’s in-house moms.

Given current and future proposals for Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards it probably isn’t surprising that General Motors is focusing on gas mileage when it comes to new product offerings.

Chevy has just released a revealing teaser image of its next-generation Malibu sedan, with the car officially set to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 18th.
