Like the 2012 SEMA Show in America, the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon was packed with Toyota and Subaru’s latest sports car. But that’s not to say that there weren’t plenty of other attractions on the Makuhari Messe Convention Center show floor. 

Who doesn’t love race cars? The 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon had no shortage of race car goodness, including several Super GT entries we’ve dreamed of seeing on our shores.

For decades luxury car tuning in Japan was exclusively VIP tuning – lowered Japanese sedans with wide, aggressive wheels, and fancy body kits. But recent years, the rise of European vehicles has shifted the luxury and exotic market out in the Land of the Rising Sun. 

With how popular the Subaru BRZ is, it’s understandable if you forget that the Japanese automaker has other models in its lineup.

For decades, the Tokyo Auto Salon was known as the premier auto show for customized Japanese vehicles; but over recent years, custom European exotics have found a new home in Japan.

Chevrolet cars aren’t exactly a hit over in Japan, and based on the brand’s Tokyo Auto Salon presence, it’s not hard to see why.

Though not as exciting as some of the other wild GT 86 and BRZ concepts that debuted today at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon, the Gazoo Racing Subaru BRZ Race concept does feature a track-ready motif for the everyday consumer.

It’s hardly a surprise that the Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ are the star of the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon, with all the aftermarket companies embracing the enthusiast platform with new products.

Suzuki may no longer exist in America, but the Japanese automaker is still performing just fine in its home country.

Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you, and we didn’t use Photoshop. That’s a real deal Toyota GT 86… sort of.

As if the Toyota GT 86 wasn’t stylish or sporty enough, the folks at Modellista decided to give the sports car a futuristic touch in order to make it more stylish and sporty.

Mazda is hoping its new CX-5 and Mazda6 models will help pave the way for bigger and better things, and at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon, the Japanese automaker wanted to show off the customizing capabilities of both models.

Chrysler made headlines with its “Imported from Detroit” tagline, and to our surprise, the cars are also exported… to Japan.

With the growing popularity of the Scion FR-S and the Subaru BRZ, it’s easy to forget that Nissan has its own rear-wheel drive sports car that also handles beautifully when pushed to the limits.

Along with all the high-quality, customized vehicles that the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon has to offer, another thing is guaranteed each year at Japan’s largest aftermarket expo – wonderful and strange creations.
