Cadillac has begun road testing its new rear-wheel drive flagship and our spy photographers have captured some images showing off a heavily camouflaged prototype of the new model. 

Rumor has it that the Chevrolet Corvette will benefit from the Cadillac Elmiraj concept’s 4.5-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine with an estimated 500 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque.

Cadillac may have axed its range-topping flagship sedan that was being developed, but the American automaker isn’t calling it quits on a halo car.

Rumors of Cadillac‘s new flagship model came to light when the ‘LTS’ name was trademarked back in June. But the American automaker may be considering multiple flagship models as it aims to launch 10 new vehicles in the next three years.

Called the ‘glamour’ concept, Cadillac teased us with photos today of the new concept that they say will debut at an undisclosed autoshow sometime in 2013. 

When the XTS was first revealed, the media began touting it as Cadillac’ s new flagship car, but the President of GM North America has made it clear that there is a new car in the works that sits above the XTS, meant to combat the German luxury brands.

Those nostalgic for bench seats and pavement-crushing suspension can now rejoice: Cadillac will build a flagship worthy of the Standard Of The World.

With Cadillac set to launch its top-level XTS luxury sedan in the next few years, the big saloon won’t be the company’s flagship for long. According to a report by Car & Driver, GM’s luxury brand is already planning a new model to slot in above the XTS, offering seriously big luxury and a rear-drive setup. (The XTS will only be available as front or all-wheel-drive).
