#Donk

If you thought the Facebook Donk was the ultimate internet homage, then you’ve clearly underestimated the laughably tasteless creativity of the Donk community. The uber-popular Angry Birds smart phone app has made its way into an Internet Google Chrome-browser friendly experience, the successful Rio movie, and now apparently into the donk crowd.

Fans of American sedans with comically large wheels would do well to avoid the Cincinnati, Ohio area, as police in the region are now seizing and impounding vehicles that fit the profile of a “donk” (a large American sedan with wheels 20″ or greater in diameter) due to allegedly being unsafe for the road.

While we have no problems commending the efforts of those who think outside the box, we have to admit we threw up a tad when we spotted this Mitsubishi Eclipse. And as much as we want to criticize this build, we have to give the owner some kudos for really overhauling the car in order to support the gigantic wheels and tires. In fact, he completely modified the car’s suspension in order to fit the 28-inch wheels on it.

And our donk-obsessed owner doesn’t plan on stopping there, with dreams in installing an LS1 V8 under the hood.

While we hate to criticize creativity, we feel like a donk’ed out Eclipse is just downright silly. Does it garner attention? Surely. But there’s a good reason no one has done this before.

For those unfamiliar with the “Donk, Box, and Bubble” trend, here’s a quick tutorial. Donk: A late 1970’s coupe or convertible, generally a GM product, such as a Monte Carlo or Cutlass Coupe, lifted, on hilariously oversized wheels. Box: A mid-1980’s Chevrolet Caprice, lifted, on hilariously oversized wheels. Bubble: A 1990’s Chevrolet Caprice, lifted, on hilariously oversized wheels.

The first time we saw one of these rolling down the street (in South Beach, of course), we thought it must have been someone’s idea of a joke. Car guys can have a sense of humor, right? Wrong. These guys are serious, and although their cars look like roller skates, they clearly have money to throw into their rides. Case and point: the following video, where in a matter of 30 seconds a Box owner completely destroys a set of rear tires. A quick check on Tire Rack reveals that these tires cost nearly $1,200 each.  Is YouTube immortality worth $2,400? Hit the jump to find out.
