In Post-Soviet Russia, VW Develops Polo Sedan For You
The Volkswagen Polo is best known for its hatchback bodystyle, but certain markets, like Russia, prefer a traditional sedan bodystyle. VW threw a bone to 4-door lovers in Moscow, when it unveiled its new Polo sedan, but the big news for us is that the Polo sedan is a lock to come to North America, as VW ramps up its quest to push 800,000 vehicles out the door each year by 2018.
The Russian Polo sedan will come with a 1.6L 103 horsepower four-cylinder with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, numbers that seem a little low for North American tastes. We’re hoping the 1.2 TSI turbo engine, or better yet, the Polo GTI, make it across the pond, but we won’t hold our breath.

New Volkswagen Touran 7-Seater Gets 51.3 MPG
Volkswagen‘s compact Touran Minivan (not to be confused with the Routan sold here in North America) has just been launched in its newest incarnation, and the range is being led by a 1.6L BlueMotion diesel that makes 105 horsepower returns a very impressive 51.3 miles per gallon. Also interesting is the tiny 1.2L 4-cylinder gas engine that puts out a respectable 102 horsepower thanks to Volkswagen’s direct injection system, and a small supercharger attached to the engine.
The Touran is based on the Golf, making it a bit small for North American tastes, but perfect for Europe and Asia, where high fuel prices and tight spaces mean that a car like a Dodge Caravan is totally unsuitable, and a smaller footprint is required (Honda even sells a completely different Odyssey in other markets for this reason). If the Ford Focus C-Max is a hit in North America, the Touran might make it over to our shores, but with Chevrolet recently killing the Orlando for the United States (but not Canada), don’t count on it.

Report: Nissan Planning New Small Car to Slot in Under Versa
Nissan is working towards building a new global small car that will be sold in North America under the Versa. In many ways a successor to the Micra, which Nissan does not offer in the U.S., this new small vehicle platform will spawn a small sedan, hatchback and a multi-purpose vehicle.
