Volkswagen Unveils Battery Powered Golfs
Volkswagen unveiled an electric Golf prototype that will preview the initial run of 500 Golfs slated for consumer testing starting next year.
The e-Golf is powered by a 114 horsepower electric motor producing 199 lb-ft of torque. Together with a one-speed transmission, the car should hit 60 mph in just under 12 seconds and get just under 100 miles per charge. If all goes well with the test program, Volkswagen will launch three electric vehicles for sale to the public in 2013, based on the soon-to-be-released Up! City Car, the Golf and the Jetta.

Report: BMW Confirms Megacity Electric Car Will Launch in 2013
The Ultimate Driving Machine is set to introduce the ultimate commuter vehicle, as BMW announced Wednesday that its new Megacity electric car will launch in 2013. BMW’s Megacity is set to be a revolutionary design, featuring a carbon monocoque chassis (similar to the McLaren F1 supercar), a rear-engine layout and aerodynamic exterior styling with carbon fiber bodypanels.

BYD E6 Electric Car Set for Production in 2009
Chinese atuo manufacturer Beyond Your Dreams (BYD) announced at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit that is it currently working on developing a pure electric vehicle that will offer impressive range.
Dodge Circuit EV Prototype
Running on a pure electric engine, the Circuit will hit 60 mph in less than five seconds and accelerate through the quarter mile in just 13 seconds. Top speed has been limited to 125 mph. Possibly more impressive than the performance is the Circuit’s range. Dodge claims the sportscar will achieve 150 to 200 miles on a single charge.

Ford Fusion and Focus Electric and Plug-in Hybrids Coming
Next year Ford will deliver pure electric versions of its Fusion and Focus models to fleet customers with units going on sale in 2011.
The pure electric cars are expected to achieve 100 miles on a single charge. Then in 2012 Ford will deliver a plug-in hybrids of both the Fusion and Focus.
Ford also announced that the four cylinder all-new Fusion will deliver 34 mpg, making the Fusion the most fuel-efficient mid-sized sedan and mid-sized hybrid sedan.

The Electric MINI: the MINI E
Recently MINI delivered 500 MINI Es (electric versions of the popular MINI) to California, New York and New Jersey to begin an exciting new pilot project. Each vehicle is powered by a 204hp electric motor, which draws power from a lithium-ion battery. MINI claims the vehicles are good for 156 miles on a single charge and that a recharge will take just 2.5 hours with a special wallbox that allows a more powerful 240 volt output. Recharge is also possible with a conventional wall plug.
