A collection of rare Ferrari exotics is heading to auction late next month in Scottsdale, Arizona.

In 2009, an FBI agent tasked with transporting a seized Ferrari F50 failed to safely deliver the cargo, instead wrecking the vehicle and sparking a fight with the vehicle’s insurance company.

Rare doesn’t even being to describe the Ferrari F50 GT1. With just three ever made (this being No. 1) the F50 GT1 program was canceled before the cars ever saw competition. Instead, Ferrari focused its efforts on Formula 1, where it met with considerably success almost ever since.

It may be called Concorso Italiano, but it might as well be the Ferrari Festival with prancing horses from all decades the overwhelming exotic car of choice at the annual event. Held the past several years at the Laguna Seca Golf Course, we’ve snapped just a selection of the incredible machinery on display in the hopes of providing a glimpse into just how extravagant this event really is.

You know it’s a good story when there’s a prequel. Not long ago, a Ferrari F50 that was stolen from a dealership, then later recovered by the FBI, and then crashed by two FBI agents (if not, you can familiarize yourself with the back story here) When we last left the saga, the insurance company was trying to get its money back from the FBI for the smashed (and worthless) Ferrari.

This event has in the past celebrated the 288 GTO, which resulted in the largest ever gathering of this model, and last year they honored the F40 ( an event we covered). Now it’s the turn of the F50 to take the honors at the greens of the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch.

In a strange (and kind of funny) twist, the FBI and Justice department are being sued for crashing a $750,000 Ferrari F50. But how did they come in possession of a car like this? That’s were the story gets interesting.
