Multi-talented driver Tanner Foust is looking for a new challenge in 2012, hoping to get himself behind the wheel of an Indy Car towards the end of this year. With a busy schedule of rally racing this year, Foust put aside the sport of drifting (where he is a two-time champion) this year and it looks like drifting will be without Foust for at least another year.

The interview with Foust was conducted at this past weekend’s X-Games 17 courtesy of MotorWorldHype and Foust looks determined to get an Indy Car ride for 2012. He did state that he would like to return to drifting down the road, saying that he misses the sport and the driving, but it’s a very good chance it won’t happen for 2012.

Now professional race car driver’s are gearing up for a serious reality event. It was announced earlier this year, that the last race on the IZOD IndyCar Series will present a new twist. Any racing driver who is not currently racing full-time in the IndyCar series, can win $5-million if they finish the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 16, in first place.

Lotus has announced that it will join the big boys in 2012, racing against both Honda and Chevy in the Indy Car series.

Chevrolet is set to return to Indy Car Racing in 2012, breaking Honda‘s monopoly on engine supply for the American racing series. Chevrolet is expected to partner with well known engine contractor Ilmor to produce a twin-turbo V6 engine, as the Indy Car series moves away from V8s and towards smaller four and six cylinder engines.

The IRL IndyCar Series is downsizing its engine formula from the current Honda-made 3.5L V8 to four and six cylinder engines displacing a maximum of 2.4L, a move being considered by other forms of motorsports, including Formula 1.

After much speculation that IRL star Danica Patrick would enter NASCAR for the 2010 season, the hopes of those wanting to see the racing diva behind the wheel of a stock car seemed dashed when her IRL schedule was confirmed. But now it appears as though Patrick will also race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2010, with a limited schedule. The car will be sponsored by Go Daddy and will be a part of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s team. An official announcement is expected later today in Phoenix, where Go Daddy is headquartered.

A day after General Motors released a vague statement declaring that it is moving to “the next step” in the sale of the Saturn brand it appears as though Roger Penske is one of the interested buyers.
