Competing in World Challenge since 2007, this season’s K-Pax Racing will be taking on a whole new look.

K-Pax Racing, a team known for fielding Volvos just announced it will campaign a pair of McLaren 12C GT3 cars in the Pirelli World Challenge sports car series this year.

K-Pax Racing debuted its new bodystyle Volvo S60R GT race car at Mosport International Raceway this weekend, but the stunning new sheetmetal wasn’t accompanied by a similar performance.

Last week we received a few teaser shots of the updated K-Pax Racing Volvo S60 and now the new car has been fully revealed ahead of its racing debut this weekend at Mosport International Raceway.

It won’t officially debut for just over a week, but K-Pax Racing has released a few teaser images of the rebodied Volvo S60 race car it will campaign in the World Challenge series.

Defending World Challenge champions, K-PAX Racing, headed back to the podium in Utah over the weekend. After conquering their respective class last season and capturing the World Challenge Drivers Championship with their Volvo S60 in the GT Class, K-PAX’s newly built C30s are already looking like true competitors in the Touring Car class as well. Showing the team’s strength, the number 88 C30 driven by Aaron Povoledo topped the podium in the car (and the driver’s) second race.

K-PAX Racing is taking their knowledge and expertise gained from racing Volvos on the track to expand their business portfolio with K-PAX Performance Cars. After winning the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ Championship in 2010, K-PAX Racing formed their sister company, K-PAX Performance Cars and have now debuted their first vehicle, the Volvo C30 GT.

K-Pax Racing has fielded a team of Volvos in the SCCA’s World Challenge season with considerable success over the past few years and have announced they continue to do so in 2011.

Randy Pobst’s racing resume is extensive having clinched Speed World Challenge GT championships in 2003, 2007 and 2008. Perhaps well known for driving the Tri-Point Mazda 6 from 2004-2007, Pobst joined the K-PAX team in 2007 and 2008, clinching the championship in their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car. But that’s all history now as Pobst has taken yet another championship (in the GT Class) for K-PAX, but this time in their Volvo S60.

Despite still having one more race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah during October 1-3rd, Pobst has already locked down the championship thanks to a 212 point lead over second place, James Sofronas. Volvo has also clinched the manufacturers’ championship for 2010 with a 12 point lead over Porsche heading into the final race.

Pobst was able to lock down the championship with a second place finish at Virginia International Raceway. Pobst’s teammate, Andy Pilgrim, took the victory at the event in the #8 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 – giving K-PAX Racing a 1-2 sweep of the podium.

A huge congratulations to the team, and to Randy Pobst for adding onto his already impressive driving resume.

K-Pax Racing, which runs the successful Volvo S60 team in the World Challenge GT series, is working with the Swedish automaker to offer a line of Volvo performance parts. The parts will be offered exclusively through certified Volvo dealers in both the U.S. and Canada, according to K-Pax Performance Cars president Peter Nielsen. Nielsen spoke with AutoGuide track-side at Mosport International Raceway where the team is competing in two races this weekend.
