As expected, the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon is shaping up to be a GT86 festival and thanks to Toyota motorsports partner Gazoo Racing, we have our first teaser of the likely star of the show.

Three years of rumors, concepts and leaks have come to this: the debut of the Toyota 86 sports car at the Tokyo Motor Show. Introduced by company CEO Akio Toyoda, a man dedicated to rebuilding Toyota’s enthusiast base, he launched an all new slogan, boldly proclaiming that the giant Japanese automakers is, “Fun to Drive, Again”.

When the production versions of the Toyota FT-86 and Subaru BRZ sports coupes are unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Auto Show neither could look anything like the concept cars we’ve been shown. That’s because according to one report both automakers have sworn to not reveal a single panel of production sheetmetal until the official debut. By default, that means everything we’ve seen up until this point will change. How significant the change, only time will tell.
