No Ferrari-Rivaling Hypercar for Mercedes-AMG
Mercedes-AMG has no plans to build a high-dollar hypercar that would rival models like the Porsche 918 or Farrari LaFerrari.
Special Mercedes SL63 AMG Celebrates F1 Championship
Mercedes-Benz is celebrating its Formula 1 World Championship win with two special SL63 AMGs.
2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Revealed Ahead of Geneva Motor Show Debut- Video
Mercedes revealed its new Formula 1 Grand Prix car, the MGP W03 during a low key press conference at the Catalunya circuit near Barcelona, Spain. However, alongside the open wheeled machine, which also saw 2012 season drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg attend, Mercedes AMG also unexpectedly unveiled its next iteration of the SL 63 AMG.
Like the regular 2013 SL, which goes on sale this summer, the AMG model sports a lightweight aluminum and magnesium shell that shaves off some 276 lbs of mass, compared with its predecessor.
Power comes from 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 that cranks out 529 horsepower, while cosmetically, the new AMG stands out via an aggressive looking aero package with a prominent front air dam, rocker panel and rear bumper cover extensions. There’s also AMG specific LED front lighting and a revised grille opening, plus a rear deck spoiler and quad trapezoidal shaped exhaust tips.
Although not many details have been released ahead of the car’s official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, we can report that the new SL 63AMG will incorporate the aluminum folding hardtop featured on the previous generation and likely Mercedes’ automatically tinting MagicSky Control glass roof. Stay tuned for further details as they become available.

First 2013 Mercedes SL63 AMG to Be Sold at Auction
We don’t even know what the final version of the newly refreshed 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG looks like and people are already talking about how the first one to hit American soil will be auctioned off later this month.
Prior Design Offers Mercedes-Benz SL Facelift Options
The newly facelifted Mercedes-Benz SL offers a much more aggressive design. What it also leaves are R230 chassis owners wishing they could revamp their front end to the new generation without forking over the cash for a whole new car. There have been several aftermarket manufacturers that are catering to that market, offering all new front ends – hood, fenders, headlights, front bumper – to convert their SL to match. Prior Design has put their bid in with one of the nicer and more complete kits on the market for those R230 owners looking to rejuvenate their car.
Buy a Benz, Get a Watch
Mercedes-Benz has once again teamed up with Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen to offer a special edition SL63 that comes with an IWC “Grosser Ingenieur” watch. The timepiece is also a special edition model and is designed to compliment the SL.
One particular highlight of the SL63 AMG Edition IWC is that it comes with stunning matte-white paint. That, plus you get the incredible performance of the first ever ground-up AMG designed and built engine. The 6.2-liter V-8 pumps out 518hp and 465 ft-lbs of torque to propel the SL63 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.
Exclusivity is the name of the game here and so production is extremely limited. Only 200 models will be built with just 63 are coming to the US.
Mercedes/AMG has been working with IWC since 2004 when the partners presented the CLS55 AMG “IWC Engineer.”
