Race car technologies moving into road cars is nothing new, but using a supercapacitor-based hybrid system certainly is. 

Talk of a Supra successor from Toyota has been getting louder lately, and now the brand is releasing a concept car that foreshadows what we will see when that car arrives, albeit in digital form. 

A successor to the Toyota Supra is arguably one of the most sought after vehicles by automotive enthusiasts, and the next chairman for Toyota, Takeshi Uchiyamada, falls in that group.

Back in December, we reported that Toyota was considering two more sports cars to go along with its hugely successful GT 86 ( Scion FR-S), and now we can confirm that the Japanese automaker will be creating a successor to the Supra as quickly as it can.

Maybe it’s just been that long since Toyota has worked on a new sports car, but it looks like their collaboration with Subaru on the GT 86/BRZ/ Scion FR-S may have just been the beginning. Toyota is already considering two additional models to their sports car lineup, one that would be slotted below the GT 86 and another would be upmarket, possibly a Supra successor.

Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda has confirmed his desire to develop a successor to the iconic Toyota Supra, but has also warned Supra fanboys against getting their hopes up. In an open forum with journalists in Japan, Toyoda said that while he “wants to see the next Supra tested in the near future, ” it’s unlikely considering Toyota’s current situation.
