Lincoln’s long-lived Town Car served fleet duty for decades, but the obsolete large sedan finally reached the end of the line about a year and a half ago. Now the competition is moving swiftly to fill the vacuum left behind by Ford’s departed “panther” car, including Cadillac. 

The Lincoln MKT is about to get a 4-cylinder engine option, though you won’t be able to buy it. The new EcoBoost 4-cylinder will only be available on the MKT Town Car, built for fleet use by livery companies.

Today, Ford Motor Company announced the official end of the Panther Platform, which has served as the underpinning of numerous Ford products, including the Ford Crown Victoria and the Lincoln Town Car, since 1979.
