Toyota is still firmly in place as the hybrid king and there aren’t any signs of it ceding the throne soon.

Toyota has announced that it finished off 2013 by topping six-million hybrid sales worldwide.

Over 60 percent of the hybrids on the road in California sport a Toyota emblem, the Japanese automaker has revealed.

Toyota and Lexus hybrid models are gaining popularity in Europe, where diesel engines are typically more popular.

While achieving an all-time monthly sales record in December with 3,244 Fusion Hybrids sold, Ford is expected to shatter that number in January with a projected 5,500 units sold.

Toyota was proud to announce that it had reached global sales of 4.6-million hybrid vehicles, with 1.02-million hybrids sold this year alone up to October 31, 2012.

Toyota has many new competitors nipping at its heels, but can still successfully claim the hybrid king crown, with total sales across all of the Japanese company’s brands topping four million through April, 2012. 

Toyota has delivered its 400,000th hybrid in Europe, marking a huge milestone for the Japanese automaker. Their entrance into the European hybrid market began back in 2000, and since then there has been three generations of their popular Prius and more recently, the Auris Hybrid in 2010.
