Should Maserati build an SUV? Well, that doesn’t really matter because they will and it won’t be what you’re expecting. One would imagine the SUV would be dripping in fine Italian materials but the underpinnings of this truck will be very American. The  vehicle will be based on the brand-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, but insiders have said it will be hard to spot the resemblance. The interior will be fitted with plush Italian leather as well as wood accents throughout the inside.

Mercedes-Benz GLS Takes On BMW X6

Mercedes-Benz is planning to take on the BMW X6 with it’s own sporty SUV called the GLS. The GLS is scheduled for launch in 2014, and will be a new four-seater built around the same unibody platform that makes up the third-generation M-class (shown above) and the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee. The GLS will have less cargo room (compared to the M-class)thanks to a sporty roof line similar to the CLS sedan.  Audi and Range Rover are also launching new models to compete with the sporty X6 SUV.

Audi Q4 To Rival The Evoque

Audi is planning to rival the Range Rover Evoque with it’s own fastback-styled, sporty version badged as the Q4. Audi will likely launch the Q4 in 2014/2015 and will cost around £30,000 ($47,500).

Report: Ford Make The Transit Connect A Family Car

Today, the Ford Transit Connect is targeted at taxi and delivery business. The vehicle is reasonably priced, great on gas and is nimble through narrow streets. However, Ford may choose to offer a seven-passenger version for young families that are not interested in bulky minivans. The next-generation Transit Connect arrives in a few years, and will allegedly be assembled in North America as a more refined vehicle. The current Transit Connect is produced in Turkey and the price comes in around $24,000 to $25,000 making it a very competitive alternative to minivans. Both gasoline and electric versions are offered, as well as models with side winds and panels.

Porsche Cayenne-Based Lamborghini SUV Rumors Surface… Again

Lamborghini and Porsche are allegedly teaming up to build Lambo a 4×4 SUV. Even though the two car brands produce very different sports cars at the opposite end of the spectrum, Porsche has agreed to lend its existing expertise to the Italian automaker to produce a SUV. This is not Lamborghini’s first time building a 4×4 however. The automaker built a series of 4x4s for military use, that were named the Cheetah, the LM001 and the LM002 (aka Rambo Lambo) during the late seventies and  eighties.

EBay Find: Jeep Wrangler Jurassic Park Edition

A Jurassic Park Jeep Sahara Edition Wrangler replica was up for grabs earlier on eBay and it looks pretty sweet. The graphics are painted on, instead of vinyl use, giving it better longevity. Land Rover Defender EV Built For Safari Driving

Land Rover South Africa has taken the brand’s iconic Defender off-roader and converted one to run on fully electric power, with an 80 horsepower motor good for 63 miles of silent, emissions free driving at speeds of up to 37 mph. The Defender EV also retains a full four-wheel drive system despite its electric drivetrain.

Chimney Pulled Down By 4 Volkswagen Amarok Trucks

To highlight the launch and strength of the all new Volkswagen Amarok pickup, four of the trucks were used to demolish a 219 foot industrial chimney. The industrial building was in Reading, Berkshire, UK, and the trucks were attacked to the top of the chimney using a  650 foot length of rope. The 2.0 litre 4- cylinder engines managed to pull the chimeny down fairly swiftly.
