Dodge Hurricrate Engines Are Here
Dodge has finally delivered on its promise with the arrival of the Hurricrate inline-six crate engines.
The first of the Hurricrate series, the Cat 1, produces 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque, powered by twin turbos providing 22 psi of boost. It features an aluminum block, twin-cam head, and cast aluminum pistons, with cooling systems for the exhaust manifolds and intercooler. If you need more power, the Cat 3 steps up to 550 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque, thanks to upgrades like forged aluminum pistons, enhanced fuel flow, and a reduced compression ratio with 26 psi of boost.
For those interested in adding these engines to their projects, the Cat 1 long block is priced at $7,995, with the full crate engine available for $10,495. The Cat 3 long block comes in at $11,715, while the crate engine is priced at $13,745. As an incentive, orders placed before November 8 come with a Visa gift card—$200 for the Cat 1 and $125 for the Cat 3.
On the Hellephant front, Dodge expanded its supercharged 426-cubic-inch V8 lineup with new variants, distinguished by block material—either aluminum or cast iron. The aluminum engines are labeled with an "A," while the cast-iron variants carry a "C." These engines are further categorized by their compatibility with different fuel types, noted by numbers like 30 for pump gas (E15) and 170 for E85. The C30 version maxes out at 900 horsepower, while the others can exceed 1,000 horsepower.
Currently, only the C170 is available, with the long block priced at $18,995 and the crate engine at $27,675. Like the Hurricrates, these engines will require the yet-to-be-released DC2 transmission or another compatible gearbox.
