Upgrading Your Suspension Costs Less Than You Might Think
One of the best things you can do for most vehicles on the road is upgrade the suspension system. By using better suspension, your handling, braking and ride quality all improve. In some cases, your fuel economy gets better, too, because your car stays planted to the road better, giving you airflow around your car. You may think that going to an upgraded suspension system costs a small fortune, but it doesn’t have to. With its EnduraPRO and EnduraPRO Plus systems, TEIN makes it possible to vastly improve your car while making your wallet happy at the same time.
How does a performance shock improve handling?
The basics of a shock absorber are fairly simple. As your vehicle moves down the road, changes in the road surface cause an impact on the tire. This brings the shock into action by moving the shock through a stroke. We’re really simplifying things here by saying that the shock shaft moves into the body of the shock, displacing oil and compressing a spring. This allows the tire to move and absorb the impact, without it being translated entirely to your car. As the shock rebounds, the tire moves back into position.
Where a performance shock differs from stock is that it controls the movement caused by the impact. It gets the tire back in contact with the road surface faster and much smoother. The shock helps keep the tire planted better and also helps with body sway as you go around a curve. Performance suspension can make your car ride better, give you a safer, more controlled driving experience, and increase your car’s value.
TEIN EnduraPRO and EnduraPRO Plus
TEIN, founded in 1985 in Yokohama, Japan, started out making suspension components for rally racing. From there, it wasn’t long before the brand worked its way into other forms of competition, and then into everyday driving with components that improve the suspension for all types of vehicles. TEIN’s latest products, the EnduraPRO and EnduraPRO Plus shock absorbers, bring the company’s racing heritage into your everyday driver.
The EnduraPRO and EnduraPRO Plus shocks and struts use the stock shock absorber lengths and stroke, but have tuned and optimized valving for each vehicle application. One of the key elements is the internal Hydraulic Bump Stopper that improves vehicle stability under heavy loads and at near-full compression. The EnduraPRO Plus models add 16-click damping adjustment as well as EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) systems compatibility on select models. You can choose to either use your stock coil springs, or if you want to change the stance of your vehicle, you might want to opt for TEIN Lowering Springs, which are available for select vehicles.
The shocks are available for many vehicles, from compact cars, sports cars, minivans, and some trucks. You can likely find your vehicle in TEIN’s fitment list. There are currently EnduraPRO and/or EnduraPRO Plus shocks available for more than 1,000 different vehicle models, and every month more are added to the list.
Jerk Reaction
No we’re not talking about that “one guy” that thinks his car is cooler than yours. We’re talking about how your car’s suspension reacts to rapid changes in gravity, or G-Force. You know that when your suspension loads up, especially when cornering, the shock reacts and can create what is known as a jerk reaction, meaning it pushes back against the gravity pull, and can create poor handling. It feels like a sudden jerk against the wheel and you also feel it in the car. It’s not fun and can be dangerous if strong enough. By calculating jerk rate from changes in G-force detected, the TEIN suspension system predicts how the vehicle will soon move and adjusts automatically in properly equipped vehicles for a proper balance between sharp handling and a comfortable ride.
What else sets the TEIN suspension components apart from the rest?
This is an easy one to answer - cost! The TEIN EnduraPRO and EnduraPRO Plus shock absorber sets cost significantly less that other performance shocks and struts. These are not simply replacement shock absorbers. They are a true upgrade using the latest ride control technologies on the market. So while the TEIN shocks may cost slightly more than a simple aftermarket replacement shock, they are significantly less expensive than other performance components. TEIN’s goal is to provide you with the highest level of handling performance at a very reasonable price. Check out TEIN’s products and see for yourself.
