Mothers have the toughest job in the world. Raising kids is no easy feat and moms deserve way more credit and support than they get.
This Mother’s Day, help make your mom’s life easier. If she drives, there are a lot of great gifts out there that will make her commute less stressful. Here are some picks for gifts we think your mom might like. Actually, any parent or anyone who has a car would appreciate these things.
Table of contents
1. Trunk Organizer
This trunk organizer is one of our editors’ favorites because of its sturdy construction and lifetime warranty. We think having an organized trunk will help reduce clutter in your mom’s car, and clutter is known to increase stress levels, so the less clutter your mom sees, the better.
If you are ready to spend a little more money, but still not break the bank, this trunk organizer from Trunkcratepro is the best on the market. It’s built from very high-quality materials and the attention to detail is admirable.
The best thing about Trunkcatepro’s product is that it comes with dividers, subdividers and mesh pockets inside. In other words, this is a great organizer for big, medium and small items, probably the best out there. It also has eyeholes and non-skid hook and Velcro strips to keep it securely in place. The built-in handles are heavy-duty and very comfortable as well and the materials used are waterproof – great for keeping fluids out of your trunk. It is also very sturdy and it will not change its shape even with heavier items stored, yet it is easily foldable for keeping it aside when not needed.
There are also several side pockets, of which one is expandable and good for keeping bigger items. Sadly, the mesh side pockets are not as elastic and you can put only flat items there. These are only small caveats that really don’t take away from the overall high-quality item the Trunkcratepro organizer is. It’s also not very expensive for the quality it offers and that’s why it sits on top of our list.
2. Portable Jump Starter
Your mom is not a damsel in distress. She’s an independent woman who should be able to jump-start her own car. That’s why a portable jump starter is such a practical gift for your mother — she will have peace of mind that she’ll never be stranded if her battery dies.
This powerful lithium jump starter is rated at 4,000 amps and offers up to 80 jump starts on a single charge. Featuring spark-proof technology and reverse polarity protection, this portable jump starter is safe and easy to use. A nice added feature of this jump starter is a 500-lumen built-in LED flashlight that boasts seven light modes: low, medium, high, flashing, strobe, and emergency SOS. This integrated light can run continuously for up to 6 hours.
Another reason why we love this particular jump-starter is that you can get use out of it on a daily basis. It’s capable of recharging all your USB devices and can also power 12-volt devices such as a tire compressor, inverters, and more.
With the amount of power it has to offer, this jump starter can be used on gasoline and diesel engines up to 10 liters and more. That includes cars, boats, trucks, diesel pickups, and even tractors.
Each package includes the portable jump starter, HD battery clamps, a USB charging cable, XGC male plug, XGC female plug, XGC cable, microfiber storage bag, and a 1-year limited warranty.
3. Bluetooth Car Kit
If your mom has an older car that doesn’t have Bluetooth, she might appreciate a Bluetooth kit so that she can safely make calls while driving or listen to her favorite podcasts during her commute.
We like its small dimensions of this particular kit and that it’s very easy to use – it plugs directly into the AUX port on your vehicle, so it doesn’t take up any space or use any cables. You will need a cable to charge it, but you won’t do that too often, as the battery can last up to 10 hours on one charge.
It comes with a built-in microphone, which means that it can be used for making phone calls as well as listening to music wirelessly. However, the microphone is of a lower quality and picks up everything from the surroundings. The TaoTronics has built-in buttons for control of songs or your phone call and it can even activate Siri or Google Assistant with a touch of a button.
Thanks to the Bluetooth 4.1 built into this product, you can expect very good sound quality while listening to music. Despite that, it sometimes doesn’t connect to your smartphone automatically – you’ll need to do it from the settings on your phone. On the positive side, it’s one of the cheapest ways to add Bluetooth functionality to your car and it has a lot of features.
4. Phone Mount/Charger
I’ve been using this Kenu cellphone mount and wireless charger for nearly a year now, and my mom said she wants one for her car, so I assume your mom might find it useful as well. A year later, and the mount still works perfectly—the clips are still strong, the part that clips into the vent hasn’t come loose, and the charging is still fast.
This mount clips into your heating/air conditioning vent, and I was surprised that it feels so sturdy. I’ve used other similar vent-mounted devices and they always feel too wobbly and not sturdy enough to hold a larger phone. This one doesn’t have that problem. The spring-loaded clips hold a phone snugly yet is still easy to slide your phone into.
I like this particular Kenu mount because it’s capable of fast charging and the plug for the cigarette lighter adapter has two USB plugs so you can use the mount and plug in another device if you need to. It’s also low-profile and doesn’t take up too much space on your dashboard or reduce your visibility out of the windshield.
Although it’s plugged into the cigarette lighter adapter, you can just slide your phone into the cradle and charge it wirelessly while you use the navigation so you don’t drain your battery while you drive. My mom doesn’t have navigation in her car, so she would love this. My car does have navigation, but I still prefer the interface of Google maps better, so I end up using my phone and phone mount to navigate everywhere. This is the best phone mount I’ve ever used.
5. Vacuum Her Car
If mom has toddlers in the car, you can be positive there are cheerios or smashed up goldfish crackers all over the car. Do a favor for the mother of your children and buy a vacuum for the car. But don’t be a jerk about it — make sure to volunteer to clean and vacuum the car for her. No one wants to get a vacuum cleaner for a gift unless it comes with the bonus of someone else doing the cleaning.
The Black+Decker Dustbuster Hand Vacuum is one of our favorites for use in the car and it’s one of the most popular handheld vacuums currently available. This hand vacuum isn’t just an ideal choice for cleaning cars, but it can also be used to tidy up the household. Weighing just 2.6 pounds, the cordless vacuum can only be used on dry materials, so keep that in mind if you’re shopping for a wet/dry vacuum. It is rated at 15.2 watts with max voltage of 16v and has a suction power of 15.2 air watts (AW).
The washable dustbowl has a capacity of 20.6 ounces and it’s one of the easiest hand vacuums to empty out and clean. Powering the Dustbuster is a lithium-ion battery that takes about four hours to fully charge. Best of all, charging is easy since it uses a charging base. The company says the battery is capable of holding a charge for up to 18 months, allowing you to conveniently keep it in your car.
While there are cheaper options available, the Dustbuster also comes with a flip-up brush and a crevice tool, two attachments that will come in handy on floormats and hard to reach places inside your cabin.
Overall, the Black+Decker Dustbuster is a medium-duty hand vacuum that will help keep your car clean with minimal effort. It is also backed by a two-year limited warranty.
6. Bag Hooks
I’m going to get a set of these for my mom and maybe for myself, as well. My mom, for some reason, insists on having a bag for trash in the car, and at least with these hooks, it will be out of the way. I also hate just dumping my bag in the rear seat because I won’t be able to reach it from the driver’s seat if I need something from there. This is also a better solution than just putting a purse on the passenger seat because all the contents will go flying into the footwell if you or your mom has to slam on the brakes. You can install these on the back of the headrests in any row or on the front of the headrest on the passenger seat.
These hooks are affordable, low-profile, and super useful. Anyone would find them handy, especially a parent. Great for holding a bag, backpack, or purse, they’re also good for groceries so the contents don’t come rolling out after going on a spirited drive.
These bag hooks are super easy to install (doesn’t need tools), they don’t take up a lot of space, and they’re backed by a lifetime warranty. The hooks can each hold up to 44 pounds of stuff.
