CARCHEX has been offering extended warranties since 2004, making it one of the longest-running companies in the industry. Warranty plans are available in all 50 states. This is noteworthy because none of the other companies that made our best extended warranty providers list are available in all 50 states.

As we mentioned, CARCHEX made the Inc. 5000 list eight times as one of the fastest-growing companies in the US. Because of this, the company is a Hall of Fame honoree, something that only two percent of all companies that have applied for this recognition can claim. CARCHEX also received a Top Workplaces Award from the Baltimore Sun for seven consecutive years.

In addition to its impressive awards, CARCHEX holds a number of significant partnerships, including partnerships with CARFAX, Kelley Blue Book, RepairPal, and It is also the only company in our top four extended warranty providers that earned an A+ Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating and accreditation by the BBB.

CARCHEX Extended Car Warranty Coverage

CARCHEX offers five different service plans. You can read a high-level description of each of these below.

  • Titanium: The highest level of coverage available, also known as CARCHEX’s bumper-to-bumper warranty
  • Platinum: Covers hundreds of specific components from all major systems of your vehicle
  • Gold: Covers many components from all major systems of your vehicle
  • Silver: Provides coverage to the essential systems of your vehicle

CARCHEX offers a number of benefits to customers that purchase an extended car warranty, including:

  • 30-day money back guarantee
  • Emergency roadside assistance

  • Towing benefits
  • Trip interruption benefits

There are a few exclusions that are common to most every extended warranty provider in the industry:

  • CARCHEX does not cover items that are damaged by acts of nature, collision, or vandalism.
  • CARCHEX does not cover items that underwent modifications or alterations.
  • CARCHEX does not cover certain luxury brands such as Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Bentley, and Lamborghini.

CARCHEX Auto Warranty Cost

CARCHEX car warranties vary in cost depending on many factors, including vehicle make, model, and mileage. Our team reached out for a quote for a 2017 Ford Explorer with 45,000 miles and found we would pay $202.89 per month for 18 months for bumper-to-bumper coverage.

We also asked about a powertrain plus plan for the same vehicle and were quoted at $165.78 for 18 months.

Plan Name Term Length Monthly Payment Down Payment Deductible
2017 Ford Explorer Titanium 5 years/100,000 miles $203 for 18 months First payment $100
2017 Ford Explorer Silver 5 years/75,000 miles $166for 18 months First payment $100

These extended car warranty quotes were slightly more expensive than quotes we received from Endurance and CarShield for the same vehicle and coverage level. However, they also provided coverage for a greater number of years and miles than Endurance.

Quotes and Claims Processes

Our review team tested the CARCHEX quotes process by submitting an online quote form for the 2017 Ford Explorer. We then called CARCHEX. Since the representative already had our information, the phone call only took four minutes total with a wait time of less than one minute.

We tested the process again by submitting a form for a 2013 Dodge Caravan with 88,000 miles, and we did not call in immediately. One day later, a CARCHEX representative emailed to request additional information, such as the vehicle identification number (VIN) and how many miles were driven each year. These questions showed a commitment to finding the best extended warranty plan for our unique circumstances. We later connected over the phone to complete the quote.

As for CARCHEX’s claims process, it is relatively easy. Here are the steps needed to submit a claim for a CARCHEX extended warranty:

  1. Take the vehicle to one of more than 30,000 licensed repair facilities nationwide.
  2. Authorize the repair facility to diagnose the vehicle.
  3. Have the facility contact CARCHEX’s claims department to receive approval.
  4. Pay the applicable deductible.

CARCHEX Reviews and Ratings

As with most extended car warranty companies, CARCHEX reviews are mixed. The company holds an “Average” rating on Trustpilot based on over 1,300 reviews, earning a 3.5-star average rating. We think CARCHEX is a very reputable provider, though, because of its high BBB rating, many partnerships, and awards.

Here are a few sample positive and negative CARCHEX reviews:

-Marie Waters via Trustpilot

“Great prices and great customer service! [I] would recommend it to anyone looking for [an] extended warranty on their vehicle.”

-Horacio S. via BBB

“I just purchased a warranty. Hopefully [CARCHEX] stands behind the contract. [CARCHEX] is really pushy to get you to sign with the company. However, the guy I worked with was really nice.”

-Paige W. via Trustpilot

“I called to get a quote on my new car, and I dealt with a very pushy salesman. I told him I just wanted a quote, background on the company, to go over their plans, and then to call a few other places to compare.”
