Infiniti has previewed what will be a coupe SUV that will join the brand’s lineup in 2020. Called the QX55, it will be based on the already popular QX50 SUV and will take its design cues from the revered FX50. It will likely be powered by the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with variable compression ratio as the QX50 but probably in a higher state of tune. It could feature AWD as standard as well.
Although the details of the car remain sketchy, it can be said with almost certainty that it will be a premium product. The cabin will likely feature sporty touches like bucket style seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and other sporty touches like brushed aluminum elements. When launched in 2020, it will rival other sporty SUVs like the BMW X4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC coupe.
Infiniti has not confirmed what the interior of the QX55 be like, we can speculate that it will probably feature bucket style seats for added sportiness, a flat-bottom steering wheel with red stitching and generous use of brushed aluminum in the cabin. Creature comforts will include but will not be limited to electrically adjustable front seats with the driver’s perch being offered with memory function. Three-Zone climate control will also be a part of the mix and could even be offered as standard.
It will also likely feature Infiniti’s In Touch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Infiniti could also offer 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and a Bose sound system but will likely be optional extras. A panoramic moonroof cannot be ruled out either.
Despite no specs being available yet, it will not be a stretch to speculate that the QX55 will be well equipped with active and passive safety features. It will, for example, offer the company’s ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system at least as an option. Other driver assistance systems like lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, active emergency braking assist, and adaptive cruise control will probably be offered as standard.
Although Infiniti has not released data regarding trim levels, we speculate, given the QX55’s ‘sporty’ inclination, it could follow the trim lineup of the Q60 rather than that of the QX50 on which it will be based. So dare we say, the trims could be called the Luxe, Sport and the I-Line Red Sport. The bottom two variants could be powered by the 2.0-litre VC-turbo 4-cylinder and CVT powertrain while the top variant could even get the 3.0-litre V6 from the Q60 to set it apart as the sportier variant.
