A video database for the new Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador supercar

Unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 is the exotic Italian automaker’s new flagship supercar. Replacing the Murcielago, it uses a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and is powered by a 700-hp 6.5-liter V12 engine. Paired with AWD and a new 7-speed ISR single-clutch gearbox, the 3,500 lb exotic can hit 62-mph in just 2.9 seconds. The Aventador is also the first production car to use a racecar-style pushrod suspension.

Inside it’s far more luxurious than the Murcielago, plus there’s a new TFT-LCD screen for the dash instead of analog instruments. It even features a “Drive Select Mode System” that allows the driver to adjust different vehicle settings (including engine, transmission, differential, steering and stability control) to one of three pre-determined setups: Strada, Sport and Corsa.

Described by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelman as “a jump of two generations”, the Aventador is priced at $379,700.

Rome is one impressive city. And impressive is definitely the type of adjective you’d use to describe the new Aventador. Lamborghini commissioned an ultra slick promo piece for the new supercar set among some of the historic city’s most noted landmarks. With incredible cinematography and powerful classical music this is definitely epic.

Having strutted its stuff in the city, Lambo’s second promo film of the new Aventador supercar takes place on the windy roads of the Italian countryside. Two of the 700-hp V12-powered exotics blast through picturesque scenery, revving their V12 engines and slicing through the gears of their quick-shifting ISR transmissions.

From the emotionally stirring piece of classical cinematography to a CGI action thriller, this video looks made in and made for the Hollywood crowd. There’s plenty of action and something remotely resembling a plot as the Aventador LP700-4 seemingly outruns the end of the world. And with a top speed of 217-mph, it might not be that much of an exaggeration.

Unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, AutoGuide was on hand to document the occasion with this first look video of the newest V12-powered Lambo. Making 700-hp from a 6.5-liter V12 engine, the Aventador LP700-4 is unique in that its chassis is made from a solid carbon fiber shell. It also lays claim to being the first production car to use a racing car style pushrod suspension.

With the first press drives occurring in Rome, the busy streets of the Italian capital are only good for showing off how good the Aventador looks. And even the Italian countryside doesn’t provide the proper testing ground for a car that can hit 62 mph in 2.9 seconds. So the real driving took place at the Vallelunga Circuit just north of the city.
