Mercury Extended Warranty Highlights

Customer Service

Mercury Insurance is a third-party extended warranty provider that is also an insurance group. In addition to mechanical protection plans, it sells:

  • Car insurance
  • Local insurance
  • Homeowners insurance
  • Condo insurance
  • Renters insurance
  • Business insurance
  • Commercial car insurance
  • Landlord insurance
  • Umbrella insurance

While most other companies only offer vehicle protection plans, Mercury Insurance Group underwrites multiple forms of protection. Mercury’s mechanical breakdown protection plans are underwritten by American Mercury Insurance, which has a strong industry reputation. AM Best rates Mercury Insurance Group at an A+.

Mercury extended warranty plans are available in 11 states, the most popular of which is California. The difference between a vehicle protection plan and mechanical breakdown insurance is that the latter is regulated by the state insurance commissioner, and in select states like California, vehicle protection plans can only be bought through dealerships.

The 10 states that Mercury provides extended warranty coverage in include:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Oklahoma
  • Texas
  • Virginia

Mercury Extended Warranty Coverage

A Mercury extended warranty can cover your vehicle when it breaks down due to engine failure, transmission problems, or electrical system failure. Mercury coverage limits are available up to 7 years or 100,000 miles. Cars that are still within the factory warranty period can be covered.

Extended warranties from Mercury do not cover routine maintenance, damages due to wear and tear, or misuse by owners. Pre-existing conditions are also not covered.

With a Mercury extended warranty, you can get full coverage for your vehicle, coverage only for your vehicle’s essential parts and systems, and a few options in between.

Mercury Extended Warranty

This is very similar to the car’s factory warranty or bumper-to-bumper coverage. All parts are covered except a list of excluded items named in your contract.

This plan includes many components, including audio equipment and hardware systems.

Silver includes the powertrain plus select fuel system, steering, and suspension components.

The main parts of your car will be covered with this plan, including the engine, transmission, drive axle, brakes, electrical, and air conditioning.

All Mercury extended warranties come with some additional benefits, like:

  • 24-hour roadside assistance for towing, lockout services, and more
  • Rental vehicle assistance
  • Trip interruption reimbursement for meals and lodging up to three days
  • Transferable coverage

Mercury Extended Warranty Cost

Compared to other warranty companies, the Mercury extended warranty cost is about average. We called Mercury for a quote for a 2013 Subaru Forester with 50,000 miles and were offered a comprehensive plan for $2,785 upfront. Unlike most extended warranties, monthly payments were not available.

What’s interesting is that Mercury offered us the Deluxe plan, which is not listed on its website. It was pitched as a combination between the Gold plan and exclusionary coverage. Here are the details:

Mercury Extended Warranty

Coverage Term

3 years/45,000 miles

$2,785 upfront

To upgrade to a full coverage, exclusionary plan, the cost would be $4,748 upfront for the Subaru. The cost of your own Mercury extended warranty could vary depending on many factors, including:

  • Make, model, and year of your car
  • MIleage
  • Your location

Quotes and Claims Processes

To get a quote for a Mercury vehicle protection plan, you can call Mercury’s car warranty sales department. There’s also an online quote tool, but it will only give you access to quotes for auto insurance, home insurance, bundling auto and home insurance, condo insurance, and renters insurance.

The claims process with a Mercury extended warranty is simple:

  • Bring your car to any licensed US repair facility.
  • Ask the facility to call Mercury at 800-654-8455.
  • Pay your deductible for any covered repair.

Mercury Extended Warranty Ratings and Reviews

Mercury Insurance Group holds an A+ Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating, which is a good indication that Mercury is a reliable provider. Similarly, the company has a 4.5-star rating on TrustPilot (although there are very few reviews). However, most of the reviews posted online are about the company’s insurance offerings rather than Mercury extended warranty plans.

This makes it difficult to gauge the coverage and claims process you can expect from a Mercury warranty, but it’s still valuable to read a few of these reviews focused on service.

Positive reviews praise customer service and sales representatives, long-term customer satisfaction, and Mercury’s money-saving capabilities. Negative reviews include complaints about rude agents, hidden fees, and slow claims servicing.
