The GLE Coupe is Mercedes-Benz swoopy-styled version of the GLE SUV. With a raked rear roofline, the GLE Coupe is designed to have a more striking, sportier look. It lacks cargo capacity compared to its GLE sibling and cannot be had with a third row of seats.

Maybach used to be a Mercedes-Benz stand alone super luxury brand. But recently, the manufacturer has transformed into a special trim level on some of Mercedes’ most prestigious vehicles. One of those models is the Maybach GLS. Starting at a price well over $150,000, the exclusive SUV comes with a 550 hp turbocharged V8 mated to a hybrid drivetrain.

The Polestar 4 is, you guessed it, the fourth vehicle to come from the all-electric luxury manufacturer. A sleeker version of the Polestar 3, the 4 doesn’t use traditional SUV Coupe styling. While on the topic of untraditional, there’s no rear window on this vehicle either.

The Rivian R1S is the second model to come from the upstart automaker. Like the R1T pickup, the R1S SUV is all-electric and can be had with a dual or quad motor set-up. The latter produces an impressive 835.

The Toyota RAV4 Prime is the plug-in hybrid version of the this popular compact SUV. Unlike most hybrids, the Prime focuses on performance as much as it does fuel savings. With a total of 302 hp on tap, the RAV4 Prime is one of the most powerful mainstream compact SUVs available today regardless of powertrain. 

These two Toyotas don’t easily fit into any one category. So welcome to a different sort of comparison: the new 2023 Toyota Crown versus Toyota Venza.

Vinfast is looking to make major inroads in North America over the next few years. One of the vehicles that will arrive in the company’s second wave is the subcompact VF 6 EV SUV. Although details are scarce at this time, power will come from a motor power the front wheels that develops between 174-201 hp. 

As VinFast’s portfolio continues to expand, the compact VF 7 all-electric SUV will join the brand’s lineup in the next year or so. Like most of its competitors, the VF 7 will be available with two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and two different levels of power. 

VinFast’s first entry into out market is the mid-size VF 8 all-electric SUV. With standard all-wheel drive, it is available in two power levels, totalling 348 hp or 402 hp. VinFast uses an unusual pricing structure that allows customers to lease the vehicle’s batteries to save up-front purchasing costs. 

The second model to come from VinFast should be the VF 9 three-row all-electric SUV. Currently there are not a lot of EVs offered with three-row seating. If VinFast gets to market quickly, this could be a great opportunity for the young auto-manufacturer.

With the Tiguan growing in size, the Volkswagen Taos fills the void left behind. Playing in the grey area between subcompact and compact SUVs, the Taos offers decent passenger room in a small package. 

The Tiguan is Volkswagen’s entry in the highly competitive compact SUV segment. Previously one of the smaller entries on the market, the second generation Tiguan grew substantially and is one of the only compact SUVs to offer three-rows of seating. 

The Volvo C40 Recharge is one of the more unique vehicles on the market. Not only is it one of the few all-electric small luxury SUVs on sale, but it comes in a swoopy coupe-like body style. A near mechanical twin to the more conventional XC40 Recharge, the C40 is one of the most outlandishly styled vehicles in Volvo’s lineup. 

The V60 Cross Country follows the a trend amongst luxury manufacturers of lifting up the brand’s wagons in an attempt to bolster sales. The true definition of a crossover, the V60 Cross Country is only available in a single trim. Unlike the potent and expensive V60, the Cross Country uses a more modest powertrain that’s matched by a much more accessible price point. 

Volvo’s large V90 wagon is no more, but the slightly higher sitting, crossover V90 Cross Country lives on. To us, this still resembles a wagon more than a crossover, and it might be the best looking long roof on the market. 

The XC40 is a subcompact SUV that slots below the XC60 in Volvo’s lineup. Two versions of XC40 are available; a 194 hp front-wheel drive model as well as one with 247 hp and all-wheel drive. For those wanting more power and/or fully electric power, there is also the XC40 Recharge

The XC60 is one of Volvo’s most important models. The compact SUV accounts for a lot of the brand’s sales and is offered in three trim levels: the B5, B6, and Recharge. All three models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with various levels of turbocharging, supercharging, and hybrid boost. 

Volvo’s largest SUV is the three-row XC90. Like most of the Swedish manufacturer’s vehicles, the XC90 is offered with a choice of 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. The entry level makes an adequate 247 hp while the top-of-line Recharge features 455 hp from a plug-in hybrid set-up. 

Earlier this year we held an 11-vehicle small SUV shootout. In the end, the Volkswagen Taos finished a close 4th place, held back due to a few areas that required improvement. 

For some people, all-wheel drive is a necessity when shopping for a new car.

Hyundai has one of the most robust electrified lineups in North America. Fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and conventional hybrids are littered throughout the brand’s model lines. But there is one hybrid we do not get on our shores: the 2024 Hyundai Kona Hybrid.

Just because you’re ready to move up to a luxury brand doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate a good deal.

Mazda stated a few years ago the brand's ambitions of moving upmarket. Maybe not quite ready to go up against the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Cadillac just yet, the Japanese manufacturer had initial sights on premium automakers like Volvo, Acura, and Infiniti.

Three years ago, it was apparent a styling trend was beginning to take over the auto industry. More and more vehicles, specifically SUVs, were adopting flat-sided, right angle, boxy designs. We even made a post about the top boxy-shaped vehicles currently on sale.

Electric vehicles are no longer novelties. They are fully mainstream, growing in popularity every day.
