It’s been a while since we last caught spy photos of the upcoming BMW 3-Series GT model, but the German automaker will be heading to this year’s Paris Motor Show with a concept to show off.

Based on the long-wheelbase variant of the latest BMW 3 Series model, the five-door hatchback will be the first new 3 Series body style to come since the compact model in 1994. The 3 Series GT will follow the same form as the 5 Series GT, sporting a higher roofline with a unique hatchback design. It will undoubtedly have more legroom than the current 3 Series models, while an optional glass roof will be made available to make it unique from all other 3 Series variants.

It is also expected that the same platform will be used for the rumored 4 Series Gran Coupe – but that won’t be coming for at least a couple more years. The 3 Series GT is expected to hit dealership lots in the first half of 2013, at least in Europe.
