Mercedes ML Recalled for Unintended Acceleration Risk

Mercedes-Benz is recalling about 8,675 all-season floor mats equipped in the ML350, ML550 and ML63 because the mats do not fit properly.

The floor mats in these vehicles do not conform properly to the contour of the floor design, and may reduce clearance for the gas pedal, potentially causing the accelerator to get stuck. In this event, the vehicle would accelerate even when the drivers foot was taken from the pedal, greatly increasing the risk of an accident.

Mercedes says that a full application of the brakes will overpower the gas and bring the vehicle to a stop, if the gas pedal gets stuck. They also advise customers to remove their existing floor mats until they can have them replaced, free of charge from Mercedes.

The recall only affects model year 2012 to 2013 vehicles, and is expected to begin during September 2012. For more info, you can contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
