By now, the Alfa Romeo SUV almost seems like a myth, especially since the Kamal concept debuted all the way back in 2003. Still, the Italian automaker hopes to have it on the market by 2015.

The Alfa Romeo SUV plays an important role in CEO Sergio Marchionne’s plan of being less dependent on the fickle European market and it’s believed that the SUV will share chassis technology with the upcoming replacement for the Jeep Liberty, while the powertrain and drivetrain will be borrowed from the Dodge Dart.

Marchionne continues to hope that he can position the Alfa Romeo brand to become a more profitable Fiat with plans to triple the brand’s sales by 2016.
