McLaren may reach out to Honda for its F1 engines as soon as next season, dropping Mercedes-Benz from the partnership in the process.

According to German based Auto Motor Und Sport, the deal is already completed, and the real question is whether McLaren will begin sourcing its engines from Honda in 2014 or 2015. Formula 1 is switching from 2.4-liter V8 engines to 1.6-liter turbocharged units, which is said to be the biggest reason for the change in engine manufacturers.

If Honda does in fact provide engines for McLaren, it will mark the Japanese brand’s re-entry into F1 since it left back in 2008.
