Honda is rumored to be working on its own Scion FR-S competitor, a rear-wheel drive sports car that will be small, quick, and light.

The car isn’t going to be a direct decedent of the S2000, but it will share many of the same attributes. Honda also wants this new sports car to be more affordable, much like the FR-S. On the drawing board for the Japanese automaker is an S1500, which would be even smaller than the Mazda MX-5 and would be powered by either a 1.3- or 1.5-liter, four-cylinder i-VTEC engine.

Ideally, Honda would like to compete in the rear-wheel drive sports car space with a vehicle priced around $20,000. Don’t expect it to make a ton of power, but thanks to its light weight which is rumored to sit around 2,000 lbs, the car should have adequate acceleration along with good handling and an overall agile driving experience.

As for styling, it’s rumored that Honda could use the N-ONE Concept as a base.

It seems that Honda is back on track with building a new generation of sports cars, evident by the 2015 Civic Type R that recently tackled the Nurburgring with hopes of claiming the front-wheel drive record.

Going to RWD may be the only thing that keeps me in a Honda. The 370Z, Genesis, Miata, FRS and BRZ are all ahead of Honda on my replacement list. I should have kept my '67 Sting Ray.

It needs to be at least a 2 liter engine with over 160hp and an optional 2.4 liter with 210-220.
