Booster-Seat Safety Continues to Improve

The folks at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have just released the results of their latest evaluation. They put 31 child booster seats to the test to find out which ones do the best job of protecting youngsters in crashes.

The good news is that 19 of these restraints earned a Best Bet rating from the organization, while one model received a Good Bet recommendation. Lower-performing boosters are rated either Check Fit or flat-out Not Recommended.

With so many booster seats earning Best Bet status it’s easy for parents to find one that’s going to protect their child as well as possible in the event of a vehicle crash. There are more top-rated booster seats on the market today than ever before.

Seats rated Best Bet correctly position 4-to-8-year-old children in almost any type of vehicle; Good Bets provide acceptable belt fitment in most vehicles. All told 63 different models are rated either best or good by the IIHS.

Here’s a list of all the booster-seat modes recently tested by the organization. Has your child’s seat been evaluated by the IIHS? If so, how well did it perform?
