Toyota has announced that it finished off 2013 by topping six-million hybrid sales worldwide.
In total, the Japanese automaker sells 24 hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model across 80 countries and regions around the world. Within the next two years, Toyota plans to launch 15 new hybrid vehicles worldwide including the new Highland Hybrid in the U.S.
Toyota’s first hybrid model hit the market in 2007, but global sales of its hybrid models didn’t top the one-million mark until 2012. Last year, the automaker sold 1.279-million units bringing its grand total to 6.072 million. The Toyota Prius accounts for over half of those sales at 3.166-million units.
