Volkswagen Beetle GRC Car Shreds Tires in New Video

540 horsepower is a lot for even a large grand touring car, but stick that much get up and go in a Volkswagen Beetle and things are bound to get interesting.

In this year’s Global RallyCross championship, Tanner Foust will be piloting the new GRC Beetle, which gets its power from a little turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. To preview the car, VW has released a video showing the new Beetle tearing up some tires with Foust at the wheel.

The 0 to 60 mph time is listed at under two seconds for the insanely powerful little race car, which is likely to begin racing during the September 19–21 weekend at the Red Bull GRC event in Los Angeles.
