The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider has been caught completely uncovered at a photoshoot.

This is Fiat’s version of the Mazda MX-5, nicknamed the “Fiata,” though the Italian automaker has massaged the looks to try to bring its own DNA into the car. A more square front and rear end design is seen on the Fiat compared to the Mazda, while the small headlamps and horizontal tail lights are inspired by the classic Pininfarina-designed 124 Spider.

Under the hood of the Spider is expected to be a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes about 180 horsepower, while an Abarth version is expected to also be offered with more aggressive styling, revised dynamics and a larger 1.75-liter turbo four pot with 240 hp and a dual-clutch transmission. The car in the photos features an automatic transmission, though a six-speed manual will be available.

On the inside, the Spider looks quite a bit like the MX-5 thanks to its console-mounted infotainment controller and tablet-like screen.

The spider should be revealed at the L.A. Auto Show in November, while the car should land in dealerships by summer of 2016.
