The 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H will be available for rental at Hertz beginning Memorial Day weekend.

Ford, Shelby American and Hertz have introduced the 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H, 50 years after the original Shelby GT350-H was unveiled. As a throwback to the famous Shelby GT350-H “Rent-a-Racer” program of the 1960s, the new Ford Shelby GT-H will be limited to 140 units and will be available exclusively through the Hertz Adrenaline Collection at select airport locations throughout the U.S.

The special edition Mustang is instantly recognizable with unique styling accessories all from Shelby. Sporting black exterior paint contrasted by gold racing stripes, each vehicle also has a set of rocker stripes sporting “Shelby GT-H.” Located on the front fenders is a Hertz Edition emblem.

The Ford Shelby GT-H is outfitted with a Ford Performance Handling Pack that includes special-tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a staggered wheel kit. The rental car rides on 19-inch aluminum wheels paired to high-performance Michelin rubber.

Under the unique Shelby-designed vented hood is the familiar 5.0-liter V8 engine that breathes a bit better thanks to a Ford Performance cat-back exhaust with chrome tips.

“The 1966 Ford Shelby GT350-H became a legend from the moment it was introduced,” said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. “Ten years ago, the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H earned the same ‘rock star’ status when it was introduced at the New York Auto Show. We worked closely with Ford Performance to make the 2016 Shelby GT-H the most exciting Mustangever to wear the iconic Hertz black and gold livery.”

If I remember right the southern cars rented were not black and gold but a deep maroon and gold some 50 years ago .

I'm not from the era, but from past articles about Hertz Ford, I always thought they were black with gold stripe.

Black cars don't rent well in the deep south, hence the color of deep maroon and gold some 50 years ago, find a Shelby collector to see one. I myself saw one on an auction sometime ago.
