Purist Porsche 911 R Arrives This Summer Priced From $185,950
The purist’s Porsche 911 R will arrive this year, priced from $185,950 including destination.
After photos and details of the Porsche 911 R leaked yesterday, the sports car has made its official debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. As expected, it is powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six engine from the 911 GT3 RS, delivering 500 horsepower and 338 pound-feet of torque. As a result, it can accelerate from zero-to-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top track speed of 200 mph. Best of all, the 911 R is available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.
On the inside, the 911 R comes equipped with full bucket seats with carbon fiber backrests and seat centers upholstered in houndstooth design, paying homage to the original 911 from the 1960s. It also has a unique 911 R-specific GT Sport steering wheel measuring 14.1 inches in diameter.

Not surprisingly, the Porsche 911 R was designed with corners in mind. The German automaker tuned the standard rear-axle steering to offer direct turn-in response and precise handling while maintaining a high level of stability. It comes standard with 16.1-inch front brake rotors and 15.4-inch rear rotors while 20-inch wheels featuring center locking hubs and a matte titanium finish gives it a true Porsche stance.
The sports car tips the scales at 3,021 pounds, making it 100 lbs lighter than the 911 GT3 RS. The front luggage compartment lid and front fenders are made of carbon fiber while the roof is made of magnesium, helping lower the vehicle’s center of gravity. Helping reduce weight is the omission of back seats and interior insulation, and the 911 R comes standard without air conditioning or an audio system.
The order books are now opened and will reach dealerships in the U.S. late summer.
