The second of the “Great Eight Phantoms” has been announced.

At the end of July, Rolls-Royce will host a special exhibition called “The Great Eight Phantoms” in Mayfair, London. The event will welcome the next-generation Phantom to the world. Following up on the first special Phantom already announced, the second is Field Marshal Montgomery’s Phantom III. During World War Two, the Field Marshal had the use of three Rolls-Royce Phantom IIIs, and his favorite will be a part of the exhibition.

This particular Phantom was commissioned for Alan Samuel Butler, chairman of the De Havilland Aircraft Company, with bodywork by HJ Mulliner of Chiswick. The British automaker says its most striking feature is a front-sloping windscreen that made the car 15 percent more aerodynamic compared to the standard configuration.

The “Butler” Phantom III became Montgomery’s main official mode of transport for many years and he kept it until 1962. It has recently undergone extensive refurbishment at Rolls-Royce specialist P&A Wood in Essex, England.
