2015 Subaru WRX Recalled for Possible Fire Hazard

Subaru is recalling 9,178 WRX sedans for faulty subwoofer wiring.

The recall affects 2015 Subaru WRX models equipped with the optional subwoofer. The Japanese automaker found items in the trunk could rub against the subwoofer wiring, causing it to move from its fixed position. If the subwoofer wiring is exposed to the metal frame, it could cause an electrical short that damages the integrated circuit in the subwoofer amplifier. In extreme cases, the damaged circuit may result in a continuous electrical current into the subwoofer, causing it to overheat and potentially resulting in a fire.

Affected units were produced from January 17, 2014, through April 9, 2015, and in order to resolve the issue, Subaru dealerships will inspect the wire and install a wire retainer clip if necessary. If any of the components involved have been damaged, Subaru will replace them free of charge.

The company has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall.
