An Image of the Next Porsche 911 May Have Leaked
The next-generation Porsche 911 looks to have leaked online through an image posted to Instagram by Porsche tuning shop Sharkwerks.
The image shows the rear of what’s believed to be a next-generation Porsche 911. Supporting this theory are spy shots we’ve seen of prototypes for the new 911, which show a similarly shaped rear end with a single rear light bar spanning the width of the car. According to Sharkwerks, the origin of the image can be linked to a friend of the shop, who sent it over to them on Monday.
Other changes expected on the next-gen 911, apart from the major styling overhaul, will include a heavily redesigned cabin with a digital dashboard and a large center display. As for powertrain options, the turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six found in the current 911 will return for the Carrera and Carrera S, but with an extra 10 or 15 hp on tap. The forced induction six will produce as much as 592 hp in the new 911 Turbo S, and even the GT3 is said to make well over 500 hp. A hybridized 911 is also set to arrive in 2020.

This new 911 will ride on a new architecture dubbed MMB, which may also underpin other sports cars from the VW Group brand, such as the next-generation Porsche Boxster and Cayman. The new platform will allow the new 911 to grow in width a bit, making a little extra room for passengers, although the overall length of the vehicle should stay the same.
The next-generation Porsche 911 should be shown in full sometime later this year before going on sale as a 2019 model year vehicle. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
